Biome Board Research Project

You are invited to research a terrestrial or aquatic biome and create a board about your
chosen biome using Board Builder on Discovery Education! You may choose one of these
biomes:

You will work in groups of 2 or 3 to research as much as you can about your chosen
biome. After that, you will each make your own board about your biome. Your board
must include the following information:
tundra taiga grasslands
temperate
deciduous forest
tropical rainforest desert estuary marine
a map of your biomes location on Earth
a description of your biomes location on Earth
List the countries your biome is found in.
Tell why your biome is located where it is.
a description of your biomes climate
average yearly rainfall
average temperature
weather patterns
descriptions and pictures of 3 plants that live in your biome
What eats them?
How big do they grow?
Where do they grow?
Have they developed any adaptations for living in your biome?
descriptions and pictures of 3 animals that live in your biome
What do they eat?
What eats them?
Where do they live? In trees? In water?
Have they developed any adaptations for living in your biome?
interesting facts about your biome
A drawing of a food chain in your biome (See rubric for detailed directions.)
A drawing of a food web in your biome (See rubric for detailed directions.)
A written explanation of what would happen if one of the biotic factors from
your food web were increased/decreased (See rubric for detailed directions.)

effectively explains
how the media relates
to the climate,
location, plants, and
animals in the
selected biome.

Model of Food
Chain from
Selected Biome
5.L.2.2
Task: Create a model of a food chain for your biome. Label the biotic factors (producers,
consumers, decomposers). Your arrows should correctly demonstrate the flow of energy in
your food chain. You will take a picture of the food chain you draw and post it on your board.

My food chain
includes interesting
organisms. It includes
the sun, producers,
primary, secondary,
and tertiary
consumers, and
decomposers. All
parts of my food
chain are labeled,
and the arrows
correctly demonstrate
the flow of energy
through all parts of the
food chain.
My food chain
includes the sun,
producers, primary,
secondary, and
tertiary consumers,
and decomposers.
Most of the parts of
my food chain are
labeled, and the
arrows correctly
demonstrate the
flow of energy
through most of the
food chain.
My food chain
includes only some
of the following: the
sun, producers,
primary, secondary,
and tertiary
consumers, and
decomposers. Only
a few parts of my
food chain are
labeled, and the
arrows do not
correctly
demonstrate the
flow of energy
through the food
chain.
My food chain is
missing several key
components. No
parts of my food
chain are labeled,
and the arrows do
not correctly
demonstrate the
flow of energy
through the food
chain.

5.L.2.3
Task: Create a model of a food web for your biome. Your arrows should correctly
demonstrate the flow of energy in your food web. You will take a picture of the food chain
you draw and post it on your board. On your board, explain the impact of removing or
decreasing one of the biotic factors from your food web, and explain the impact of increasing
one of the biotic factors in your food web.
4 3 2 1
My explanation is
complex and
demonstrates that I
have a clear and
deep understanding
of a food web in my
biome. I use details
and complex
scientific vocabulary
to explain the impacts
of increasing and
decreasing biotic
factors in my food
web and have
included clear,
specific, and
developed details. All
information is
accurate and clear.
My explanation
demonstrates that I
understand food
chains and food
webs in my biome. I
am able to explain
multiple relationships
that exist between
biotic factors in my
biome. I can
correctly explain the
impacts of
increasing or
decreasing a biotic
factor in my food
web. All information
is clear and
accurate.
My explanation
demonstrates that I
have some
understanding of
food chains and
food webs in my
biome. I can
somewhat explain
the impacts of
increasing or
decreasing a biotic
factor in my food
web but my
explanations are not
clear and have
inaccurate
information.
My explanation
demonstrates that I
do not understand
food chains and
food webs in my
biome. I am unable
to explain
relationships that
exist between biotic
factors in my biome.
I cannot explain the
impacts of
increasing or
decreasing a biotic
factor in my food
web.
