Sat, August 9 - Pine Valley Guided Hike: Please Join us on Saturday, August 9 for a guided hike through

the Pine Valley Wilderness. Tis will be a short educational hike designed to help families understand the

Sat, August 9 - Pine Valley Wilderness Talk:Every saturday Pine Valley Hosts a camp fre talk at the amphi-
theater in the camp ground. Tese talks have included mountain man presentations, leave no trace, getting

Wed, August 13 - Climbing for Wilderness: Southern Utah has some of the best climbing areas in the nation,
not only because of the kind of rock that we have here but also because of the beauty that our wild places
have to ofer. Tis year we are celebrating the 50th anniversary of Wilderness and one of the things that we
would like to do to celebrate is to climb in our wild areas. Troughout the summer and into the fall we will
be hosting trips to many of our local climbing areas. Free instruction will be provided and equipment can be
rented from the Outdoor Center at SUU for a small charge. Check our events calendar to fnd out when our

Sat, August 2 - Cedar Breaks National Monument Star Parties: To celebrate and share the beauty of our dark
night skies, Cedar Breaks will be hosting a series of Star Parties. Star Parties will be held at the Point Supreme
Overlook on Saturday nights beginning July 6 through August 31. A constellation tour and telescope view-
ing through several large telescopes will be facilitated by park staf and astronomy volunteers. Visitors who
have their own telescopes are invited to bring them to the Star Party. Te spectacular annual Perseids meteor
shower will be highlighted with Star Party activities on August 12. Activities will begin at 9:30 pm in June
and July and 9 pm during August. Call 435-586-0787 for more detailed dates and information. NOTE: Tese

Sat, August 9 - Spring Creek Family Hike: Please join us on Saturday, August 9th for a family hike into ones
of the most pristine wilderness areas in Southern Utah. We will meet at 10:00 A.M. in the Lions Pavilion
at the Main Street Park in Cedar City and then drive to the Spring Creek trail head. Free Water and Snacks
will be provided so bring the whole family for hike they wont forget! Please reserve your spot my calling or

Sun, August 10 - Great Basin Full Moon Guided Hike: A limit of 40 people are permitted on these popular
guided hikes and they are frst come, frst served (no reservations). Free tickets are available the day of the
hike at the Lehman Caves Visitor Center. Although we keep the location of the full moon hike secret until
you pick up your tickets, expect an easy to moderate two-mile hike above 10,000 feet. For the safety and
enjoyment of the hiker and the group, the rules listed below are strictly enforced; violations can disqualify

Tue, August 12 - Great Basin: Perseids Meteor Shower Watching Party - August 12, 2014 Immediately follow-
ing the astronomy program stay around to watch the most impressive meteor shower of the year. Te Dark
Rangers will talk about the source of the meteor shower, what are meteors, and as a special bonus, will have
diferent types of actual meteorites to hold. Te program will begin afer the normally scheduled astronomy
program. Bring a lawn chair or a blanket and make yourself comfortable to watch the meteor display. At
4:00PM that afernoon, the rangers will hold a special presentation called Cosmic Collisions. See how im-
portant collisions in outer space are for life on earth, the origin of the solar system, and the makeup of the
universe. Te presentation will take place at the Lehman Caves Visitor Center.
