The Accessible Prayers: Prayers for Transfiguration Sunday
(Reader: __________ )
Let us go up the mountain. Let us go up to the place where the land meets the sky, where the earth
touches the heavens, to the place of meeting, to the place of mists, to the place of voices and
conversations, to the place of listening. O God, We open our eyes and we see Jesus, the months of
ministry transgured to a beam of light, the light of the world, your light. May your light shine upon us.

Meditation: Here in this Place - Gather Us In (M. Haugen)

The Accessible Prayers: Prayers for Transfiguration Sunday (continued)
(Reader: __________ )
We open our eyes and we see Moses and Elijah, your word restoring us, showing us the way, telling a
story, your story, his story, our story. May your word speak to us. (pause) We open our eyes and we see
mist, the cloud of your presence which assures us of all we do not know and lets us know that we do not
need to fear. Teach us to trust. (pause) We open our eyes and we see Peters constructions, his best plans,
our best plans, our missing the point, our missing the way. Forgive our foolishness and sin. (pause) We
open our eyes and we see Jesus, not casting us o#, but leading us down, leading us out - to ministry, to
people. Your love endures forever. (pause) We open our ears and we hear your voice, This is my beloved
Son, listen to him! And we give you thanks.

Meditation: Here in this Place - Gather Us In (M. Haugen)

The Accessible Prayers: Prayers of Intercession
(by a Reader, ________, and the People)
Stir up in us, Loving God, the desire and the determination to glorify you in every prayer and in all our
relationships. Transgure not only our own lives but also the lives and a#airs of the millions with whom we
share this planet. People: Transgure each ordinary church-goer. Dispel discouragement and self-
doubt, self-righteousness and arrogance. Transgure the women and men who preach the Gospel. People:
Enlarge their understanding and expand their capacity to love.

Meditation: Here in this Place - Gather Us In (M. Haugen)

The Accessible Prayers: Prayers of Intercession (continued)
(by a Reader, ________, and the People)
Transgure the hopes of the downtrodden and dispossessed. People: Give a new compassion to the
strong and the prosperous. Transgure the expectations of the young. People: Disperse the vainglory
and indulgence with which this society indoctrinates them. Transgure the values and goals of
political leaders. People: Inspire them to act justly, love mercy, and to walk humbly with you.
Transgure the anguish of those who tremble or weep, su#er or die today. (pause) Let the valley of sorrows
become an avenue of hope to your children.

Meditation: Here in this Place - Gather Us In (M. Haugen)

The Concluding Prayer
(Reader: _________ )
Father of Lights, You revealed your glory and presence in your beloved Son, Jesus the Christ. In receiving
our prayers, reveal the glory and presence of your Spirit alive in the world today, free us from all doubts,
and empower us to act as a transgured people; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Meditation: This is Holy Ground/Alleluia No. 7 (Beatty/Taize)

Epiphany 8A The Readings March 1, 2014

A Reading from the Book of Exodus (24:12-18)
(by a Reader, ___________)
The LORD said to Moses, "Come up to me on the mountain, and wait there; and I will give
you the tablets of stone, with the law and the commandment, which I have written for their
instruction." So Moses set out with his assistant Joshua, and Moses went up into the
mountain of God. To the elders he had said, "Wait here for us, until we come to you again;
for Aaron and Hur are with you; whoever has a dispute may go to them."

Then Moses went up on the mountain, and the cloud covered the mountain. The glory of
the LORD settled on Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it for six days; on the seventh
day he called to Moses out of the cloud. Now the appearance of the glory of the LORD
was like a devouring re on the top of the mountain in the sight of the people of Israel.
Moses entered the cloud, and went up on the mountain. Moses was on the mountain for
forty days and forty nights.

A Reading from the Book of 2 Peter (1:16-21)
(by a Reader, ____________)
We did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and
coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we had been eyewitnesses of his majesty. For he
received honor and glory from God the Father when that voice was conveyed to him by
the Majestic Glory, saying, "This is my Son, my Beloved, with whom I am well pleased."
We ourselves heard this voice come from heaven, while we were with him on the holy
mountain.

So we have the prophetic message more fully conrmed. You will do well to be attentive to
this as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in
your hearts. First of all you must understand this, that no prophecy of scripture is a matter
of one's own interpretation, because no prophecy ever came by human will, but men and
women moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.

Epiphany 8A Psalm & Gospel Readings March 1, 2014

Psalm 2 (or Psalm 99)

1 Why are the nations in an uproar? *Why do the peoples mutter empty threats? 2 Why do the
kings of the earth rise up in revolt, and the princes plot together, *against the LORD and against
his Anointed? 3 "Let us break their yoke," they say; *"let us cast o# their bonds from us." 4 He
whose throne is in heaven is laughing; *the Lord has them in derision. 5 Then he speaks to them
in his wrath, *and his rage lls them with terror. 6 "I myself have set my king *upon my holy hill of
Zion." 7 Let me announce the decree of the LORD: *he said to me, "You are my Son;this day have
I begotten you. 8 Ask of me, and I will give you the nations for your inheritance *and the ends of
the earth for your possession. 9 You shall crush them with an iron rod *and shatter them like a
piece of pottery." 10 And now, you kings, be wise; *be warned, you rulers of the earth. 11 Submit
to the LORD with fear, *and with trembling bow before him; 12 Lest he be angry and you perish;
*for his wrath is quickly kindled. 13 Happy are they all *who take refuge in him!

A Reading from the Gospel of Matthew (17:1-9)
(by a Reader, ___________)

Six days after Peter had acknowledged Jesus as the Christ, the Son of the Living God,
Jesus took with him Peter and James and his brother John and led them up a high
mountain, by themselves. And he was transgured before them, and his face shone like
the sun, and his clothes became dazzling white. Suddenly there appeared to them Moses
and Elijah, talking with him. Then Peter said to Jesus, "Lord, it is good for us to be here; if
you wish, I will make three dwellings here, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah."
While he was still speaking, suddenly a bright cloud overshadowed them, and from the
cloud a voice said, "This is my Son, the Beloved; with him I am well pleased; listen to
him!" When the disciples heard this, they fell to the ground and were overcome by fear.
But Jesus came and touched them, saying, "Get up and do not be afraid." And when they
looked up, they saw no one except Jesus himself alone.

As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus ordered them, "Tell no one about the
vision until after the Son of Man has been raised from the dead."

Epiphany 8A Celebrant/Reader Supplement March 1, 2014

The Collect of the Day
(by the Celebrant)
O God, who before the passion of your only begotten Son revealed his glory upon the holy
mountain: Grant to us that we, beholding by faith the light of his countenance, may be
strengthened to bear our cross, and be changed into his likeness from glory to glory; through
Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and
ever. Amen.

The Meditative Prayer: Approaching the Glory
(Reader: ____________ )
Eternal Mystery -- Wholeness and Goodness -- Light and Life...beyond our understanding --
o#ering us the breath of life that we might breathe life into a world in need of peace. We come into
your Presence, into this holy place where we have met you before and have given attention to
your mandate of love that ows through our communal life. We come knowing that as much as
we have learned, there are still mysteries that we do not understand, there are still paths that you
have made, places to which we have been afraid to journey. Often we cling to our own earthly
rules and our positions of safety and power instead of holding onto your hand held out rmly in
truth and grace. (pause) God, open our eyes. Christ, open our hearts. Spirit, open our Way.
(pause) Help us to see more clearly, to love more deeply, to journey more courageously, carrying
with us the truth and grace of the one we proclaim as Christ, for others. May this world be
transgured by your glory so that your light would be hope for humanity within the darkness. May
all come to the mountain of God and rest there, knowing the peace that Christ promises.

The Lords Prayer (KJV)
(by All, led by the Celebrant, from his or her seat)
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in
earth, as it is in heaven.$
Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.$
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power,
and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Concluding Prayers of Blessing (just some options)
(by the Celebrant)
Option #1: May the stars carry your sadness away, may the owers ll your heart with beauty,
may hope forever wipe away your tears, and, above all, may silence make you strong.
Option #2: Go now, sure-footed in faith, with eyes wide open and waiting for Gods glory to
surprise you in unexpected ways. And the blessing of God Father, Son and Spirit -- Mystery, Sign
and Hope, be with you and those whose lives you touch, now and always. Amen.
