Project Title Analysis and Design of a multi-storey reinforced concrete building

Specific Objective Carry out a thorough analysis and design of the structural elements in a
multi-storey building including foundation, columns, beams and slabs.

General Approach
1- Obtain an architectural design of a residential multi-storey building.
2- Establish the structural systems for the ground, first and repeated floors of the building.
The location of columns and wind resisting system will be determined according to the
architectural drawings.
3- Evaluate the loads to which the building subjected to.
4- Assume initial design
5- Carry out an initial analysis and redesign according to the load effects (bending
moments, shear forces, normal forces, deflections, etc.) of the structural elements.
6- Verify how safe and economic the design is.
Design/Analysis Tools and Methods
Available commercial structural analysis tools may be used
Available codes of practice should be used. Consistency in the use of such codes is a must.

The students will obtain analysis and design experiences with the analysis and design of
reinforced concrete elements including beams, columns, slabs and foundations. ........................
