PRAJITURA CU MERE

A moist and tender apple cake that is the perfect showcase for crisp and
delicious apples.
I like to use a 1!inch sprin"!form pan to make this upside down apple cake# $ut %ou can
also make it in a ceramic $akin" dish. It&s $est if it&s a round dish $ecause %ou&ll need to
flip it o'er after it cools a $it.
A simple dustin" of powdered su"ar and cinnamon will suffice# $ut %ou can also ser'e
this cake with a scoop of ice cream or dri((le with %our fa'orite caramel sauce.

Cook Time: 1 hour
Total Time: 1 hour, 30 minutes
Yield: 8-10 Servings
Ingredients:
1 )*+ cup self!risin" flour
1 tsp. $akin" powder
+ apples# peeled and cored
)*+ cup $utter ,1 1*- sticks.
1*) !cup $rown su"ar
1 1*- cups "ranulated su"ar
1 1*- t$sp. $rand%
1 tsp. 'anilla e/tract
1*- tsp. "round cinnamon
1 pinch of salt
+ lar"e e""s
)*+ cup milk
1*- cup raisins
1*- cup coarsel% chopped walnuts ,or pecans.
Preparation:
Preheat the o'en to )0 de"rees.
1ift the self!risin" flour with the $akin" powder and set aside. 2al'e the apples and slice
into thin slices. 3eep the apple slices in a $owl of water with some fresh lemon 4uice
added to pre'ent the apple slices from $rownin".
Usin" a$out 1 1*- t$sp. of the allotted $utter# "rease the $ottom and sides of the sprin"
form pan. The $ottom should ha'e a hea'ier coatin" than the sides. Press the $rown su"ar
in to the $ottom of the pan.
5a%er the apple slices in the $ottom of the pan in an o'erlappin" circular pattern. 6ou
should ha'e some apple slices remainin". 7ice these into small chunks and place in a
$owl. 1prinkle the apple pieces with the $rand% and a $it of "round cinnamon.
Usin" an electric mi/er# $eat the remainin" $utter with the "ranulated su"ar until li"ht
and fluff%. Add the e""s# one $% one and continue mi/in". Add the 'anilla e/tract# the
cinnamon and pinch of salt. Add the milk in a slow stead% stream while the mi/er is
workin".
Add the flour mi/ture to the $atter little $% little until incorporated. Turn off the mi/er
and stir in the walnuts ,pecans.# raisins# and diced apple pieces to"ether with the $rand%.
Pour the $atter o'er the apple slices# fillin" the pan to appro/imatel% three 8uarters full.
9ake in a preheated )0 de"ree o'en for appro/imatel% an hour. A cake tester inserted in
the center should come out clean.
Allow the cake to cool for appro/imatel% 10 minutes and then in'ert on to a cake plate.
