Supporting Deaf People Project
We have changes happening in the SDPP team which
I would like to explain.
SDPP and Camsight are going to become one
service still funded by Supporting People but
this means that our team are going to move
to Camsight which is in Green End Road,
Cambridge and we will then be employed by
Camsight and not CDA.
We will continue to provide a service to
D/deaf people and our links with the CDA will
continue as with our other organisations and
professionals that we work with. You will still see us
around at various drop ins around the County and
from time to time at the CDA.
The change will officially take place as from lst July but of course the practicalities
of moving may take a little longer. You can continue to contact us on the
telephone numbers below at the moment and we will put any changes on the CDA
website and continue to put information in the CDA newsletter.
Please be reassured that we are committed to providing support to D/deaf
people across the county and hope that you will continue to access our service
when you need to.
Please contact us if you would like any further information or would like to make
a referral.

the early pick up call. After arriving at Alton Towers and sorting out disabled
access wrist bands for the group, everyone quickly scattered off to find the

being zipped into a clear plastic giant ball to roll about on water cue lots of

Facebook scam targets deaf people
Trading Standards is warning Facebook users to be wary of unsolicited messages
after a deaf woman was targeted by a scam (21
st
March 2011)
The victim received a message on Facebook that seemed to come from a friend
of hers and was apparently endorsed by the National Institute for the Deaf and
the World Federation for the Deaf
Advance fee fraud
She sent money to a Western Union account on the promise of receiving a larger
sum in return. The victim lost 850 and also found that she could not access her
Facebook account, meaning that fraud could have used it to commit the same
scam against others.
Facebook users are being warned not to respond to unsolicited messages that
ask for personal details and money, even if they seem to be a friend. If in doubt,
find another method to contact the friend, such as by calling them on a known
number.

Computer Training
We have had many deaf people visiting CDA for Computer
training. Brendan Casey has been brilliant and we have received
excellent feedback from Deaf clients. The most popular feedback
was mainly two things, that is being able to communicate
on a One to One basis using BSL. The two most requested
training is how to deal with facebook issues and
downloading photos. We have been very lucky to have
Brendan as it is very difficult to find someone who has his skills in
using computers as well as being able to use a variety of different communication
methods to meet a wide range of communication needs! I hope he will stay with
us for as long as possible!
Please do let me know if you need any help with understanding how to use a
computer and I can arrange a training date with you to meet Brendan Casey. The
best time to meet him is on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday. (Wednesday and
Thursday are the best days.)
It would be great if all Deaf people understand how to use a webcam and have
access to one so that we can all sign to each other over the internet!
