Three kinds of
virtual machines.
One market
leading solution:
vSphere.
Once you have installed
vSphere there are three ways
to create virtual machines.
1. Physical to Virtual (P2V) The built-in VMware
Converter transforms and consolidates physical
servers into virtual machines. Using the wizard-driven
interface, it's as simple as pointing at the server icon
and clicking. You can then import existing VMware
and third-party application virtual images.
2. Build from scratch You can also create virtual
machines from the ground up. To do this, you just
have to specify the number of CPUs, memory, disks
and network interfaces you want to assign to the VM.
You can assign from 1-64 CPUs and also 1-1000GB of
memory per VM.
3. Import virtual appliances These are ready-to-run
virtual machines packaged with an operating system
and software application. They make it simpler to
acquire, deploy and manage applications by
eliminating underlying hardware and operating
system dependencies.
