Choose a Reputable Bakery
Start by visiting websites to view images of their work and read what
their customers have to say about them. Search for wedding cake
styles that you like, make a list of your top three bakeries and schedule
a meeting to meet the cake artist.
Start Early
The better the cake artist, the more in demand they are. You should
start choosing your wedding cake, three to six months prior to the
event. Once the theme or colors have been selected, let the tasting
begin.
Taste the Cake
Too often brides assume that if a cake looks good it tastes good. That
is not the case. Make sure you not only view images of wedding cake
styles, but taste the fnished products. What is inside is important!
Be creative
You dreamt it, it can happen! The traditional 3-tier cake with bride-
and-groom fgurines on the top are of the past. Your wedding cake
can be as individually designed and decorated as the love you share
for each other. Think outside of the box.
Limit Input
The more opinions you have the more diffcult the choice will be.
Remember, it is your day and choose the cake that looks and tastes
good to you!

O
ne of the most
important decisions
in planning your
wedding is choosing your
wedding photographer. Afer
all, your wedding album will
tell the story of your wedding
long past your special day.
Here are seven tips to assure that your
wedding photographer does not simply
snap a picture, but captures the emotion
of the event and the personality of your
guests.
Tip #1: Do your research. Visit the
website of potential photographers to get a
feel for their work and experience. Check
their Facebook page and read what other
couples are saying.
Tip #2: Schedule interviews. Interview
at least two or three photographers to see
what kind of work they do and learn their
pricing schedule and fees.
Capturing the Moment:
Tips for Choosing Your Wedding Photographer
Tip #3: Ask for references. Ask for
photographer recommendations from family,
friends and co-workers.
Tip #4: Value over price. Staying on
budget is crucial, but price should not be
the only determining factor. Make sure the
photographer can capture your wedding in the
style you are looking for.
Tip #5: Get the details. Who will personally
be photographing your wedding? What is
included in the price? How many hours will
he or she shoot? Write down all your questions
and have them ready when you meet.
Tip #6: Express your desires. Photographers
shoot hundreds of weddings a year, but not
YOUR wedding. Tell them what you want,
bring samples and point out images of their
work that fts what you are looking for.
Tip #7: Get a written contract. Getting
things in writing helps eliminate possible
misunderstandings and ensures everyone is
on the same page.

For Your Winter/Spring Wedding
January: Gardenia
With their three to four-inch blooms, gardenia fowers
would add an elegant touch to any centerpiece,
wedding bouquet or fower arrangement. In addition to
keep sophistication, the exquisite gardenia exudes an
intoxicating fragrance. But be gentle, the fower can
bruise easily.
February: Hyacinth
Available in various vibrant colors, hyacinth
fowers offer the fexibility needed to
coordinate any wedding destination or theme.
They are renowned for their star shaped
fowers and make the perfect addition to table
centerpieces, bouquets and wedding dcor.
March: Lilac
Lilacs evoke a romance and nostalgia
that is only perfect for a wedding
ceremony. In hues of purple, white
and mauve, the natural beauty and
sweet scent entice many brides to
select them for their spring wedding.
According to The Language of
Flowers, lilacs represent loves frst
emotions.
April: French Tulip
Historically used for declarations of love,
tulips add simplicity and elegance to any
wedding celebration. The long, elegantly
poised French Tulip is a fower that can be
paired with other fowers to make a beautiful
arrangement or with the large head size, can
be breathtaking standing alone.
A Flower
2012 www.showmetheozarks.com 19
June: Stephanotis
Meaning marital happiness, each
stephanotis fower is as unique
as the bride herself. Stephanotis
centers are hollow and can be
adorned with pearls or crystals to
accent the brides gown or wedding
theme. They are white, petite and
full of beauty.
May: Rose
The ultimate symbol of romance, roses remain
a wedding favorite. Available in every color
imaginable, roses look good in any kind of
arrangement. Whether a blossoming bouquet or
a single rose, they represent tradition, beauty and
grace.

Budget Savvy Bride:
Top Budget Tips
H
e has goten down on one knee and said those four words
every woman dreams will leave the mouth of the man she
loves-Will you marry me? He has slipped the ring on your
fnger and the two of you have marveled at what life will be like
as husband and wife. You are ofcially engaged!
Now it is time to ask the most important question of all: What is
a wedding budget we can live with?
2012 www.showmetheozarks.com 21
Here are fve budget cuting tips:
Tip 1: Find a low-cost location. If you are fexible, you can save a lot of money
simply on the where of your wedding day. If you or your parents are members of
your childhood church, the location fee will probably be waived. Public gardens
and historical buildings, offer natural beauty and ambiance and may be available
for a surprisingly low fee. Planning a backyard wedding at your home or at a home
you have admired, can substantially cut costs. Questions to ask: Is there a rental fee,
a clean-up fee, a fee for the on-site coordinator?
Tip 2: Set the time for early in the day. The reception will take the biggest
chunk of your budget with the cost of food and beverages as your greatest expense.
A beautiful wedding brunch will set you back less than an elaborate dinner without
sacrifcing your dream of perfection and elegance. Also, a lot less alcohol will be
poured over lunch than a late evening dinner!
Tip 3: Often brides get so wrapped up in the fne details they forget where the
attention of their guests truly reside. Spend money on things people will see the
most throughout the event. Guests will be more focused on the bride and groom
through the ceremony than the fower decorations at the end of the pews that they
pass momentarily. Instead of decorating the back of each individual chair at the
reception, consider more elaborate table centerpieces that will be more of their
focus. Also, harness the creative talents of family and friends.
Tip 4: Select fowers that are in season and locally available. Availability
and price vary from city to city, and region to region. Ask your local forist what
fowers are in season and let him/her know that cutting cost is a high priority. They
will help you from there.
Tip 5: Cut your guest list. This might be the last thing you want to hear, but
the easiest way to control your budget is by limiting the size of the event. Single
friends can be invited solo, you can make it an adult only event and you can limit
your guest list only to people you have spent time with in the last fve years.
