FIERY_S300 INFORMATION
THE FIERY_S300
Our system is separated into two distinct parts:
A) the RIP translator and the FIERY_S300 server (the server where you must connect and print )
B) the color copier connected to the Fiery
In this guide, except for a few options for the copier, we are talking about the FIERY_S300.
The FIERY_S300 permits direct printing from your desktop (MAC or PC) using your software via the
EPFL intranet network (as long as some basic ground rules are followed).
If you nd these network manipulations intimidating, you can always make copies from paper origi-
nals, but keep in mind the print quality won't be as good.
We don't accept PostScript or PDF les uploaded to our server or on CD -- direct printing
from your desktop is the only way to obtain digital color copies.
The Fiery is at once a computer-to-plate translator and a server: once your les are sent, they're put in
a queue (_hold) where we can specify all the options: number of copies, two-sided copying, stapling,
color adjustments (RVB - CMJN - GrayScale), etc...
This is why you don't need to select ANY options, except for the paper fomat.
PAPER FORMATS (or cardstock) three possibilities:
1) choose A4 for all A4, portrait or landscape (also A4 R)
2) choose A3 for all A3, portrait or landscape
3) choose 13" x 19" for A3+ SuperB = 482.6 x 330 mm. Note: certain ofce software cannot
manage your document in this format, you'll need to use professional desktop publishing software
(InDesign -in priority-, PageMaker, Illustrator or XPress, etc...)
Note: you do not need to choose a printer tray
FORMAT REQIREMENTS (bleeds, printing margins):
If you want a "full page" printout, or one with a bleed-to-edge image or background, be aware that
no digital copier is able to do this on the standard A4 or A3 format. You must include a white
margin of at least 4 or 5 mm on all four sides of the page.
YOU HAVE TWO POSSIBILITES
A smaller nished format: Print normally in standard A3 or A4 format, then we will cut around
your printout; you will thus obtain a nished format smaller by 10mm = 200x287 for A4 and 287x410
mm for A3.
Final cut in standard format: create a montage of two A4 or 1 A3 centered, on 13"x19" (A3+
SuperB), don't forget to enlarge your bleeds (image or background) to 3 or 4 mm per side. Note: to
do this, we recommend Adobe InDesign.
SINGLE-SIDED, DOUBLE-SIDED PRINTING (multi-page le)
If your document has more than one page, don't split it up into several les -- print the whole document
in one go, which allows us to select various options such as: single-sided and double-sided, etc...
BLACK AND WHITE DOCUMENTS (with just a few color pages)
If your black and white document has just a few color pages placed randomly in the job, rst gene-
rate a PostScript le, and then a color PDF (generate this with Acrobat Distiller in print mode)
using the Fiery_S300 Driver/PPD. The PDF obtained should be uploaded onto our server \\REPRO\
PUBLIC -> folder NOIR ET BLANC; we'll take care of separating and printing the black and white and
color sections. (note: test the .PDF on your printer before sending it to us).
Details for manipulating les (.PS to .PDF) are in our documentation, in the User's Guide entitled
"Digital Black&While printing"
You can also give us originals of the color pages on paper in A4 format (even if the "job" is
in A5 format), they will be printed on our color copier (but remember that the quality won't be as
good as digital printing).

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
REPRO ORDER FORM (ex "order form 10X OCFIM")
Your les/jobs will not be handled until we receive the order form.
The order must include the "centre de frais" and the account number that will be charged.
Don't forget to indicate on your order that the le (give the lename) will be printed on our Fiery
S-300, there are many documents printed in our workshop and this saves us time.
PROOFS
Tests: your les will be tested, in case of a problem we will contact you.
Proofs: a proof can be provided; please ask for this on your order. This is a way for you to
have a nal look at the document before nal printing.
In the case of complicated jobs, we strongly recommend this!
prinout: In a simple job, you can give us a printout from your printer; this allows you to skip the proof
stage, and, of course, if there is a discrepancy between our printout and yours, we'll contact you.
DELIVERY
For a simple document (e.g. 200 copies of a 2-page document), the job can be done in one or two
days. For a more complicated job, contact us so that we can set a delivery date that works for you,
particularly if any binding options are involved.

Before printing !!!
IMPORTANT - CHECKLIST (PC & MAC)
Options don't select any options, except for the paper format
A4 for all A4 documents, portrait or landscape
A3+ SuperB = 13"x19" (A3+superB = 482,6 x 330 mm.) only with professional DTP software
Tray: dont' choose a tray, we'll take care of that
Multi-pages: print the whole le at one time (do NOT split it under any circumstances)
Proofs: proofs can be provided, ask for them on your order
Order: don't forget to include the account number to be charged.
FIERY_S300 - PC WINDOWS 98 - 2000 - NT4
INSTALLATION of the FIERY_S300 printer
The procedure is essentially the same on Windows 98, NT4 ou 2000
The path method:
2000/XP 1) Start Menu -> Printers -> Add printer
Network printer
2) To install, enter this parth: \\repro\ery_s300
Default printer: NO -> do not share
-> Do not print a test page.
3) Check that the printer is available...
Note: depending on the access rights of your computer, you might encounter problems with
the installation; if this happens, contact your administrator and show him/her this guide.

Caution for Windows PC 7 (especially the 64-bit)
The PPD (description le) will not install automatically, so you need to install it manually
1. Keystroke: \\repro to view the list of printer, then click Fiery
2. An error message indicates that there is no driver for the current system.
The system also proposes to give the path to install the driver
then go on the server of Repro
3. \\repro\public\PRNTDRVR\Ps_drvr\Win_2K_XP_VISTA
and select the le oemsetup.inf
the print queue then settled properly.
FIERY_S300 - MACINTOSH OSX 10.4
Installer the Fiery_S300-Repro printer
Note: printing with AppleTalk and with Macs using OS9 are no longer supported
Open the utility Print Center
(in the Utilities folder in Applications)
1) Open the Printer conguration
2) Click on Add to add a printer
3) Choose Imprimante IP
4) Choose Protocol Line Printer Daemon - LPD
5) Enter this address: 128.178.37.25
6) For the queue, type: hold
7) Name the printer Fiery_S300-Repro
8) Under "Print via" choose EFI
9) Choose the PPD Fiery S300 50C-K Color Server v1.1 eu
10) Click on Add
11) Don't choose any options for the printer, just click on Continue
12) In the liste of printers, verify that the Fiery_S300-Repro printer
is mounted and that the PPD is the right one.

ARE YOUR DNS UPDATED ?
Some users haven't updated thier TCP-IP
conguration (System preferences -> networks
-> TCP-IP). The DNS must be congued in this
manner otherwise you won't be able to print:
DNS prim. 128.178.15.227
DNS sec. 128.178.15.228

FIERY_S300 - MAC OSX 10.5
INSTALLATION of the FIERY_S300 driver
Installing the virtual printer on Mac OSX 10.5 is more complex because Apple has not
included the Fiery driver in the system. It's therefore necessary to download the installer
before you can set up the virtual printer.
First solution: download the driver from our website:
http://www.ep.ch/repro/Fiery_S300-OSX.dmg
Second solution: connect to our server //repro/public and enter the Couleurs folder,
then copy the driver to your own computer. Install the driver and the "recognized" PPD
drivers FIERY_S300, using the following method:
1) Go to ... ->"connect to a server"
2) enter the following path smb://repro/public
2b authenticate yourself, either with the normal "Active directory",
or if that doesn't work, use one of the 3 accounts below:
username /or/ nomdomaine\username /or/ camipro card number
Password: your password
Choose the Couleurs folder
3) Copy the image FIERY_s300-MACosX.dmg to your hard disk
4) Decompress the image and launch the installer FIERY_s300-OSXinstal
(authenticate yourself... username and password to validate the installation)
NB: you will see a message that the installation has been successful.
Restart if necessary

FIERY_S300 - MAC OSX 10.6
Driver Installation-ppd "FIERY_S300" 64-bit
This system has no driver locally, the driver for Mac OSX 10.5 proposed in the previous page
is not compatible.
You need to install the special driver compatible 64 Bits.
You can download this driver from our website at this address
