Brain computer interface

scientists have developed so called brain-computer interfaces which allow the user to
control different devices and programmes without hands, by means of the users
thoughts.
Christoph Hintermller of the Project Management and Research team at g.tec Guger
Technologies sums up a machine which can quite literally read the mind.
It is intended for disabled patients, and the system made up of electrodes which sit on the
scalp translates user intentions into electronic commands.
A brain-computer interface captures various electrical impulses from the head of the user,
and decodes them into specific tasks and actions.
That allows the user to play an online computer game, hands-free. The user selects the
commands by simply looking at the blinking arrows on the screen. The frequency of the
flashing is reproduced in the brain cortex and read by the electrodes. As soon as we have
understood the electroencephalography patterns produced by the groups of neurons in the
brain, we can map the brain activity to any commands for any device, like a television or
a motorised system for the home.
Developed within a European research project, this technology makes home electronics
more accessible. A user can navigate through various on-screen menus by simply
focusing attention on the commands.
This way even severely disabled people can compose text messages to communicate with
others in social networks on the Internet. With further improvement, this system will
allow to remotely control robotic assistants and even personal transportation vehicles
such as electric wheelchairs.

A medical boon for people suffering from diabetes
The salk scientist have discovered a protien FGFI injection, enough to restore blood sugar
levels to a healthy range.this not only keeps the sugar levels under control but also
reverses insulin insensitivity, plus it does not have any side effects.FGFI is a powerful
method and unexpected way.

Fabric that doubles as a spare outlet
Physicists at Wake Forest University have developed a fabric that doubles as a spare
outlet. When used to line your shirt or even your pillowcase or office chair it
converts subtle differences in temperature across the span of the clothing (say, from your
cuff to your armpit) into electricity. And because the different parts of your shirt can vary
by about 10 degrees, you could power up your MP3 player just by sitting still. According
to the fabrics creator, David Carroll, a cellphone case lined with the material could boost
the phones battery charge by 10 to 15 percent over eight hours, using the heat absorbed
from your pants pocket.

To transform plastic waste into raw material for 3D printers

Siddart pat MIT 21 yr graduate .Pai's Protoprint with its innovative solution to transform
plastic waste into raw material for 3D printers makes a difference. The Pune-based
startup, the first of its kind in India, has tied up with ragpickers who bring in waste they
collect from various parts of the city to a site run by Protoprint. At the site, the plastic
materials are segregated and fed into the FlakerBot, a machine built from scratch by Pai
to shred the plastic. From there, the shredded plastic moves to the RefilBot, also built by
Pai, which converts it into filaments that is used as raw material to print objects in a 3D
printer.
Protoprint is working as the first officially certified producer with UK-based charity
organisation Techfortrade's The Ethical Filament Foundation, an initiative that partners
with organisations worldwide to aid the manufacturing of ethical 3D printer material
from recycled plastic waste.
Globally, there are a few precedents. While Italy-based Ewe Industries has developed a
machine that turns any recycled plastic into filament, UK's Omnidynamics recently raised
64,369 on crowdfunding platform Kickstarter to develop its filament maker.

Flip side of health monitoring
Google and novartis announced a partnership to develop contact lenses that can monitor
blood glucose levels. It is a tiny device with an antenna the width of a human hair which
measures glucose levels in tears and transmits the data to your smart fone. The lense also
corrects the vision problem in the elderly.
I think that this all the pharma companies will run behind this revolutionary technology
and they will work hard to expand their markets. Also this innovation will change the
way people will approach to their sickness.

Microsoft to slash 18,000 jobs in deepest cuts in tech giant's history

Microsoft is embarking on the deepest cuts to its workforce in its 39 year history, axing
18,000 jobs over the next year, as it absorbs its newly acquired Nokia phone business and
takes out layers of management.

3D printing

One of the companies that made it easy to turn data into matter with 3D printing is
making it just as easy to turn matter into data with a 3D scanner. The Digitizer creates a
high-resolution 3D image of any object that fits within its 8 x 8 x 8inch scan space, and
then turns it into a virtual 3D model for editing and printing. At $1400, the Digitizer costs
a fraction of the price of industrial scanners and can sit on a desktop. When used with a
3D printersuch as its sister product, the Replicator 2it effectively becomes a Xerox
copier for solid objects
