Today the students will be working in chess club and playing competitive games against each other. Students will be practicing the different techniques that they have been learning throughout summer.

Students need to know how to play chess. Students will need to know the basic moves in chess. Students will need to know the different game pieces represent. John and I will review the different Moves that the students learned the day before. We will show the students by having a mock game setting up to use the different movements. Afterwards, John and I will break the students into pairs, and have them begin a chess game against one another. John and I will circulate the room helping the students with different techniques, and observing the students on how they play. The last five minutes of club time will be spent discussing how the students used the different techniques in their games.
Meeting your students needs as people and as learners If applicable, how does this lesson connect to the interests and cultural backgrounds of your students? The students who are in chess club is because they have an interest in chess.
If applicable, how does this lesson connect to/reflect the local community? HOST holds chess tournament at Mcdonald every tuesday.
How will you incorporate the arts (visual, dance and movement, music, drama, multimedia)? We have songs to help the students rememeber the peices by using the song Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes.
