Computational Modelling using

SuperPro Designer
1
Intelligen, Inc.
Process Problems: Design, Operation, Control, Optimisation, Management etc.
Computational Modelling helps to understand the problems more
efficiently using mathematical tools
Also Mathematical Tools help:
-To design experiments efficiently
-To evaluate the process quickly
-To generate process data when experiment is extremely difficult or
expensive
-To gain a deep insight of the process

3. Build Flowsheet
Add a Procedure: (A sequence of one or more operations, all taking place in the same
piece of equipment)
* Add a Unit Operation: (not required for continuous mode of operation)
15
Add Intermediate Streams, Input and Output Streams (be in Connect
Mode)
* Draw a stream from the source point to the destination point

5. Initialise Input Streams
A stream that does not have a unit procedure as its origin (i.e., it originates from a
circular dot and ends at the input port of a procedures icon).
They carry in raw materials and other consumables used by the various processing
steps included in the simulation.

6. Initialise Process Scheduling
For processes that operate in batches, i.e. for processes whose overall
mode of operation was set in Step 1 as batch, you must also provide
process scheduling information before performing the mass and energy
balances.
For continuous processes (e.g. industrial wastewater treatment) no
scheduling information is required.
7. Define Process Sections
A process section is a group of procedures with certain goal (e.g. WWT

8. Adjust Convergence Parameters (for Flowsheets with Recycle Loops Only)
The convergence (relative) tolerance is defined as (New Value - Old Value)/
Old Value
(RC + Recycle Loop Options)
9. Perform Simulation (solve M&E balances)
When all necessary previous steps are done, you are ready to perform the
mass and energy balances for the entire process.
