The Prophet Ezekiel

Let the little children come to me, and do not forbid them, for such is the Kingdom of Heaven. Mark 10:4

The Fear of God The Fear of God The Fear of God The Fear of God
Today, in the Gospel reading, we
hear about how our Lord heals another
man who couldnt walk. After Christ healed
him, the man stood up and walked home!
The Bible says, When the crowds saw it,
they were afraid, and they glorified God.
But why were they afraid? Are we supposed
to be afraid of God, too? When our priest is
ready to give us Holy Communion, he says,
With the fear of God, with faith and love,
draw near. Should we be afraid, just like the crowds in the Gospel
today were afraid?
Well, this time, when we have fear, its not like when we are afraid of
snakes or spiders or sharks. We stay away from those! But when we have
fear of God, we show that we are amazed by Him! We show God that we
are amazed at what He has done. We are amazed by His power. We are
amazed by His love.
When we come for Holy Communion, we come with fear. God is so power-
ful that He could heal the paralyzed man in the story today. God is so
powerful, but He is also so loving that He wants us to come closer to Him!

PROPHET EZEKIEL

This week we remember two prophets. A
prophet, remember, is somebody who
speaks for God. God tells him what to say,
and then he tells the people. Today is Prophet
Elijah. But on Wednesday, we remember the
Prophet Ezekiel.
Ezekiel lived 600 years before Christ was
born. But he is still a saint of our Church be-
cause he was close to God and always tried to
do what God wanted from him.
God wanted Ezekiel to tell the people to stop
worshiping idols. So he told them. The people
didnt want to hear that, so Ezekiel was even
killed for telling them!
On Holy Friday, we remember the day Christ was put on the Cross.
During one of the services on that Friday, we read something from
the book of Ezekiel in the Bible. We hear about the dry bones
that will rise up and be alive again. When we hear those words, we
think about how we will rise up one day and be with God.

We celebrate the nameday of St. Ezekiel on Wednesday, July 23rd.
