Position Description

Career Readiness Trainer

Reports to: Transitions Coordinator
Duty Hours: 20 hours per week during Monday through Friday from 8:30am-3:30pm

Mission:
YouthBuild Public Charter School (YBPCS) is an alternative high school for young people
seeking to transform their lives by re-engaging in their education in a non-traditional school
environment. YBPCS prepares students for post-secondary education and the workplace by
offering, in English and Spanish, academic, vocational and workforce development programs.
YBPCS believes that service to the community is an essential part of the transformative process.
Therefore, students serve their community through volunteer projects and by creating housing
for low income residents in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.

Position Summary:
The Career Readiness Trainer will be responsible for planning and leading classroom activities
related to employability, communication, conflict resolution, and other soft skills associated with
preparation for transition to post-secondary education and the workforce.

Duties include:
Lead classroom activities and workshops to facilitate students professional development
Prepare daily lesson plans on resume building, interviewing techniques, developing
positive work habits, career exploration, problem solving, goal setting, budgeting and
related topics
Coordinate guest speakers or training series on areas such as financial literacy, diversity,
business etiquette, professional dress, tax preparation, public speaking and advocacy
skills
Collaborate with Education Department to provide support in academic program through
team-teaching career readiness concepts in English Language Arts, Social Studies, Math,
Science, English as a Second Language and Business Technology
Work in partnership with Workforce Development Department and Transitions
Department to ensure students are equipped with the skills and qualifications to enter
post-secondary education, training and/or employment




Qualifications:
Bachelors degree and at least 2 years of experience in teaching, training, group
facilitation and/or related program delivery; strong preference for career readiness
training experience in an urban environment
Bilingual (English/Spanish) with strong oral communication in both languages; preference
for ability to write in Spanish but not a requirement
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, resume and cover letter writing and related computer
skills
Creativity and enthusiasm to motivate young adults and to tailor learning activities to
meet both individual and group learning needs
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, energetic and passionate about engaging young
people in career readiness activities.
