Newton FFA Makes Impact On Ohio FFA Convention

On May 1 and 2, the Newton FFA Chapter traveled to Columbus

fortheOhioFFAConvention.Studentsgatheredwithover7,000

peerstocelebratethisyear'saccomplishments.NewtonFFAmadean impact,withsixdifferentstagerecognitions. Seniors Vidol-Lee Schauer and Megan Zielinski received gold ratedofficerawards.SeniorsNathanielMaxwellandTylerShuman

receivedtheirstateFFAdegreesalongside700othermembers.

Two students were recognized as proficiency finalists. Nathaniel

MaxwellcompetedintheAg.Processingareaforhissupervisedagri-

culturalexperienceatFultonFarms.Hewasnamed4thintheentire

state.ThehighlightoftheeventwassophomoreRJRenner,whocom-

petedintheAg.MechanicsRepairandMaintenancedivision.RJwon

It may not seem to be a big issue, but many children miss out on educationduetopoverty.Theproblemisnotjustskippingschool; therearechildrenwhoaregoingtoschoolandareunabletofocusdue tothingsgoingonathome.Manychildreninothercountriessuchas SouthAfricahavetoworktohelptheirfamily.Childrenareeither missingschoolorspendsomuchtimeworking,theyaretootiredto learnorunabletofocus.Theyalsocarefortheirsickenedfamily membersbecauseoflackofmedicalattention,ortheycan’tafford themedicalhelp.Iftheyareconstantlyoutofschool,workingisn’t goingtohelpthemwhenthey’reinschooltryingtolearn.Eitherway,

childrenshouldreceiveaneducationtofurthertheirlivesfinancially. Nutrition is also a main concern when dealing with poverty. There aremanydifferentprogramstohelpfamiliesgetthegroceriesthey

needandtohelpsupporttheirfamilyonnutrition.Children,espe-

cially,needtobeproperlynourished.Toqualifyfortheseprograms,

ittakessomeeffort.Whenparentsaren’twillingtoapply,thereisa

majorproblem.Ifthey’renotworkingtheleasttheycandoithelp

outtheirchildrenandtheirownnutrition.Manychildrenwhoaren’t

properlynourishedhaveissuesgrowing.It’sworthitinthelongrun

togetthehelpyouneed.

Poverty has a major effect on children living today. It’s necessary tomakesurechildrenaregettingagoodeducation,areonaproper diet,andtoteachhowtogetthemselvesoutofpoverty.Theremaybe afewpeoplewhodeservetheblameforpoverty,buttherearemany stepstogetoutofit.Italldependsonwhohasthemotivation.
