Regular Comparatives and Superlatives

Comparatives and Superlatives are special forms of adjectives. They are used to compare two or more things. Generally, comparatives are formed using -er
and superlatives are formed using -est.
ADJECTIVE FORM COMPARATIVE SPER!ATIVE
Only 1 syllable & ending in -e
e.g. wide, fine, cute...

e.g. wider, finer, cuter...

e.g. widest, finest, cutest...
Only 1 syllable with 1 vowel and 1 consonant at
the end
e.g. hot, big, fat...
"ouble the consonant and add -er
e.g. hotter, bigger, fatter
"ouble the consonant and add -est
e.g. hottest, biggest, fattest
Only one syllable, with more than one vowel or
more than one consonant at the end.
e.g. light, neat, fast

Two syllables, ending in ".
