Joint IOU HAN Use Case

Definitions / Assumptions / Actors

Assumptions:
* note, only add assumptions if they are specific to the use case
o The Utility AMI to HAN interface exists.
o All communications et!een the Utility AMI net!or" and the HAN #e$ices are passed
throu%h the AMI Net!or" &ate!ay.
o A process exists to connect'ind the customer(s HAN to the Utility AMI net!or".
o HAN communications may e limited to the customer(s HAN, and may securely cross the
Utility AMI to HAN interface.
o HAN de$ices ha$e een safety tested and are appro$ed y a nationally reco%ni)ed test
facility *Manufacturers to determine+.
o HAN de$ices comply !ith all applicale ,-- re.uirements.
o Utility AMI interoperale HAN de$ices are remotely up%radeale.
o The ori%inal e.uipment manufacturer !ill pro$ide operatin% manuals and technical
support for HAN de$ices to the end use customer. This includes installin%, operatin%, and
trouleshootin% materials.
o If net meterin%, the home(s electric panel up%rade has occurred and the electrical
circuits and !irin% can handle the dischar%in% process.
o ,or /0'1H/0, the $ehicle has some onoard intelli%ence and communication capaility.
o -ustomers can o$erride a non2emer%ency curtailment re.uest *e.%. pricin% e$ents+.
o -ustomers can not o$erride an emer%ency curtailment re.uest.
o Non2Interoperale HAN de$ices !ill not participate in Utility sponsored rates and
pro%rams.
o In order for customer HAN de$ices to communicate !ith the Utility AMI net!or", suitale
and appropriate security methods *includin% pri$acy protection+ and capailities !ithin
the AMI and HAN de$ices must e implemented.
o The AMI pro3ect re.uirements apply to all customers, specifically to those under 455"6
in demand

o The I78 *i.e., transmission operator+ and utility ha$e determined that demand response
pro%rams and e$ents *e.%., -ritical 1ea" 1ricin%+ !ill e necessary for %rid mana%ement
o 9oad control de$ice*s+ at the customer site !ill ta"e action ased on price or specific
e$ent *dependent on presence of the control de$ices and compliance !ith Utility
re.uirements+
o The meter may ser$e as the interface et!een the utility and the customer(s load control
e.uipment *as opposed to usin% a separate %ate!ay+.
o The customer shall ha$e the aility to pre2pro%ram the load control de$ice at their site to
respond to e$ent messa%es and'or pricin%
o The customer shall ha$e the aility to o$er2ride the automated load reduction e$ent
response at their site
o -ustomers must e enrolled in a demand response pro%ram to enale communications
et!een the utility and the customer(s control de$ices
o -ustomers may, ut do not ha$e to, ne%otiate another communication method *such as
cale, #79, 6iMax, city2!ide 6i,i, etc:+ for price, consumption, load, e$ent messa%es
et!een their HAN de$ices and the AMI
o -ustomers !ill ha$e the choice of !hich HAN de$ices participate in any offered demand
response pro%ram *su3ect to technical conformance !ith the offered demand response
pro%ram from the utility+. ;,or example, the customer may ha$e door open'close
sensors attached to the same HAN as their li%hts and thermostat and may choose to
only enroll the li%hts and thermostat in the demand response pro%ram.<
o The utility AMI %ate!ay sends daily time and rate synchroni)ations to the IH#.
o If a de$ice re.uires re%istration !ith the utility, the de$ice is expected to contain $olatile
and non2$olatile memory. A portion of the non2$olatile memory !ill retain re%istration
information in case there is a loss of po!er. 8nce po!er and communication is restored
to the de$ice, it !ill automatically re2re%ister itself ased upon the last "no!n %ood
re%istration.
o The HAN #e$ice is utility compatile, meanin% it is technolo%y enaled to interoperate
!ith the AMI system.
o The AMI system supports meter de$ice2specific, consumer2specific and location2specific
rates'illin%. *e.%. /lectric 0ehicle */0+, 1lu% in hyrid electric $ehicle *1H/0++.
o
o All physical and safety re.uirements are met.
o

o #isplay options are supported as re.uired for the specific application includin% ut not
limited to display of utility pro$ided data.
