How to Study from books for Civil Services Exam

I am writing this article to help all the aspirants in studying different books. Studying from books
in a very focussed and smart way helps you prepare in best way.
1. Modern Indian History - Study and make very consolidated notes with proper
chronology.(chronology will help in better understanding and learning)
2. NCERT 11&12
th
Biology -Study the( environment part, biotechnology part,
biomolecules, biodiversity) ,get the concept, also use internet for the same, Learn
examples, try to integrate it with Contemporary issues especially happening in India.
3. World History - special focus on several revolutions, try to arrange the events in
chronological way and also figure out the impact of them on India.

Tips for those who are going to give PRELIMS 2014

Below are some points that I would suggest all the aspirants of Civil Services Exam 2014 who
are going to appear for the PRELIMS 2014.
1. Now onwards focus more on revision rather than grasping new facts.
2. Practice MCQs and pay special attention to negative marking. Give focus on paper II
more.
3. Practice at least 2 passages everyday so as to enhance your speed and accuracy.(Reading
Comprehension by Arihant)
4. You can go through the current affairs from Vishals current affairs book also.
5. If you are attending test series or giving test online, its really good. The questions which
are getting wrong or which u dont know in your practice, try to know why and get the
concept.
6. And possibly pay special attention on Environment, Ecology, Economics, Biotechnology
etc..U can refer class 11
th
and 12
th
biology NCERT books for them.
7. Try to revise at least 10-15 times.
8. Also try to solve 20 years back question papers of prelims (can refer Vishals solved
prelims book).
9. Allocate time efficiently on studying, revision and question practice (1:2:1).
Last but not the least patience with positive attitude must be there!!!!!




Tips for those who are preparing without coaching for Civil
Services Examination

1. Effective time management is the key to success. Thereby manage your time accordingly and
put special focus on learning,concept understanding,revision and question practice.
2. For those who are doing job,try to have a balanced time management that is put more time on
studies when u feel fresh and never let your hectic job schedule come in your journey. Be
confident and just continue your journey happily.
3. Follow standard book for every subject,try to refer internet for the topics you dont understand
and make a habit of writing down whether in the form of notes in copy or in book itself so that it
eases your revision process.
4. Try to do maximum question practice. Solve last 20 years papers and also if possible online
tests. Question practice will for sure make you confident and will make your journey more
comfortable.
5. Coaching is just a guidance strategy, in-fact without coaching also with smart effort you can
proceed . Just study,revise and do question practice.
6. Regularity is very much needed so never loose this, be consistent in your approach. Study to
your best,give your best and results will be in your favour.
7. While reading study materials make sure you make consolidated material out of it so that
revision process
becomes easy. While reading any newspaper do make short notes of it.
8. Take help from previous year papers, internet, online lectures if available. This can help you in
your preparation.
9. Remember self dedication is the key to success so no matter you take coaching or not, if you
have patience,positive attitude,perseverance and sustained effort game is yours. The burning
passion to serve and work should be the priority which will really help you in the journey.
10. Try to focus on current affairs and follow integration technique to answer the questions
which can help you to get good marks.
11. For mains pay special focus on answer writing, write more and try to revise maximum.
12. Always remember success will not come to you, you will have to go to success. So
irrespective of anything its totally your dedication and effort which would mean.
Remember when I started my journey the path was full of thorns, but I continued then those
thorns got converted into roses.



Tips for PAPER II for Prelims 2014 of Civil Services
Examinations

1. Do maximum question practice. This will enhance your speed and accuracy. Speed factor
is really important.
2. For Passages, practice 3 passage now onwards everyday till last. This will really impact
your preparation positively. Infact some passage do help in GS also so if you find an
interesting topic do make notes of it .
3. In Reasoning and Maths section do maximum practice and try to focus on accuracy.
4. While attempting the paper divide your time accordingly for passage and others. For eg:
If there are 30-35 ques from passage put at max 50 -60 mins in that.
5. Dont get entangled in Passage if you dont understand because ultimately marks is same
for every question.So work smartly like if a passage is really tough to get and it has only
2 questions then its apt to leave it and try on other questions.
6. Have an aim of 180+ in this paper as this can give you a smooth sail and give u a safe
zone to settle.
7. Those who are trying for 2014 attempt now onwards put atleast 3 hours on this paper.
8. Solve maximum questions which will surely build confidence in you.
9. Always set a time and attempt so that you could virtually get the time frame of attempting
which will really help you during examination time.
10. Try to avoid negative marks so attempt those which you are sure. Maybe initially in
practice you will get less marks but believe me later on and in Final exam you will end up
with a very good score.
11. While attempting the paper of 2hrs try to do the maximum in 100-105 mins as some for
bubbling 10 -15 mins are needed.
12. Also always attempt compulsory English passage and decision making question.
13. Decision making questions do not carry negative marks so its good to attempt all. Use
Gandhian philosophy and practical ethical answers to those questions.
14. Give your best, Try to practice more, focus on time frame, enhance your accuracy
