It is a great way to get active and ft but also to be able to spend time having fun with your family and friends She won the Leicester Mercury Mum in a Million award in 2001 and a Make a Stand award, a police prize for helping to tackle anti- social behaviour in New Parks. Christine was a devoted Mum to Ann- Marie and Andy, Petra and Andi, Paul and Donna and an outstanding Mamma of Christopher, Chloe, Nathan, Cory, Neave and Regan. She was sociable and loved a laugh and joke. Jeanette Streather and Darren Girling used her scooter as a buggy board on a few occasions, going to meetings and having a few drinks together. Christine would always have stories to tell, she was a fascinating and caring lady. Christine thought she was Super Gran and no-one could keep up with her when she was on her scooter. But she was not just a super Gran, she was a super Mum, Mamma and Friend in a million. Everyone who meet her was proud to call her a friend. Christine Cronogue was afectionately known as Te Godmother of New Parks for her work in the community over several decades. Christine passed away on Sunday March 9th 2014 from liver cancer. It was heart-breaking her passing away and New Parks wont be the same again. Christine has lef a big legacy behind and she will never be forgotten and everyone who met her has a part of her in their hearts.
Christine lived on Plymlock Close, of Aikman Avenue and was a former Chairman of the Leicester Federation of Tenants Association. Christine was best known for helping to set up the estate Hand in Hand Tenants Association, and was recognised for her remarkable eforts with an MBE in the Queens Birthday Honours list in 2009.
Christine Cronogue Christine Cronogue made New Parks a better place to live. She was involved in many projects over the years. She started up the Extravaganza, the Reassurance project (working in conjunction with the police), Te Graf tti project, Te American Diner, Te Football Tournament, Parks Pantry, Chatterboxes, Creative Young New Parks, Arty Farty Craf Group, and many more. She worked tirelessly for the community and always put other people before herself, she never gave up without a fght if she thought she was right. She always made people believe in and stand up for themselves. She was motivated by her strong Christian Faith and belief in the goodness within people. She faced many battles and health issues in her life, but nothing ever stopped her from making a diference for others and for the community of New Parks. She always put Hand in Hand frst even before her own health and she never wanted anything in return.
Christine would speak to her family up to three times a day. New Parks has lost a very inspirational lady who will be missed by all who knew her. When we think of Christine we can see her on her scooter going down the road with Bat Out Of Hell by Meatloaf playing and a glass of whiskey in one hand. Christine you are missed very much and if only you knew how many peoples hearts you have touched. New Parks would like to say:- Tank you for everything you have done, very proud to have known you.
