Loadbearing Fire Compound is ideal for use around pipes and ducts where these penetrate compartment or separating walls or oors.
Even when fully cured Loadbearing Fire Compound permits the provision of additional or replacement services without the need to
replace the complete installation, yet still retaining its strength properties.
General benets:
Smoke seal
Good acoustic barrier
Suitable for making good around most types of service penetrations
Loadbearing (see Loadbearing table for details)
Simple installation
No smoke emission
Maintenance free
Unaffected by humidity

Fire stopping service penetrations through concrete floors - Promaseal Fire Compound with plastic pipe penetration
Up to 240 minutes fire resistance in concrete floors. Refer to CERTIFIRE CERTIFICATE OF APPROVAL No CF 425.
Promat Technical Services must always be consulted for specific advice where penetrations are involved.
3
The seal must be installed in floors or walls which are minimum 100mm thick, or the the thickness of the seal, whichever is greater. The minimum density for the concrete of the floor or wall is 780kg/m
3
and for walls made of concrete blocks is 600kg/m.
Penetrating services must be rigidly supported no
further than 500mm from the seal faces on both sides of the seal.
3
Rock wool slab (minimum 50mm thick x 140kg/m) may be used as permanent shuttering for pouring the compound into the opening and around penetrations.
Plastic pipe penetrations should be firestopped with Promaseal Pipewrap, available in a range of sizes up to 160mm plastic pipe diameter.
Promaseal Pipewraps are folded around the pipe and secured into position using the adhesive tab.
The Promaseal Pipewrap is then slid along the pipe and positioned to tight-fit into the prepared opening.
The Promaseal Pipewrap must then be grouted into position using Compound.

SIG have brought to market a new
and useful Universal Pipe Wrap
and Sleeve, it has been tested on
both plastic pipes and around some
insulation materials as an integrity
re barrier, making it a handy
versatile type of product.Rockwool
have looked at the testing of this
product in some detail, based on this
we see it as suitable option solution
for plastic pipes and some insulated
pipes that pass through Rockwool
coated batts
These are very often problem
applications for restopping purposes,
and this seems to be a nice simple
one stop type solution

Insulated Fire Sleeves
For more information, please visit www.sigtechnicalinsulation.co.uk
For insulated pipes, it is necessary to remove the insulation at
point of penetration to enable standard pipe collars to close
plastic pipes. This removal of insulation results in condensation
on cold pipes and loss of thermal performance on hot pipes.
Insulated Fire Sleeves combats this problem by providing both re
stopping and thermal insulation.
General benets:
Quick, simple and accurate installation
Maintains pipe insulation at penetration points
Supplied with integral vapour barrier
No mastic or ancillaries required
Excellent thermal and acoustic insulation
Non-combustible
Dimensions
Insulated Fire Sleeves are supplied 300mm long. They are
manufactured to t a range of standard pipe sizes, from 17mm to
169mm O.D. and standard thicknesses of 25mm to 100mm.
For un-insulated pipes, a thickness of 25mm is required to
maintain the re rating. Insulated Fire Sleeves should be installed
to the same thickness as the pipe insulation (min 25mm thick).
Service Temperatures
Insulated Fire Sleeves are used to re stop pipe work operating at
temperatures between 0C and 180C. At low temperatures, care
should be taken to maintain the vapour barrier.

Fire resistant ducts are the best way to ensure re safety in HVAC installations as they provide performance from beginning to the end of
the duct system lifetime. Rockwool, Isover, Knauf and Promat provide solutions for metal ventilation ducts that secure re resistance as
well as meeting thermal and acoustic requirements.
Fire Duct products can be used to provide re protection to horizontal, vertical, rectangular, circular, ventilation and smoke extract steel
ductwork fully in accordance with BS 476 24, ducts Type A and Type B, Fire outside duct and Fire inside duct.

Tunnel Liner and Ductliner
PassiveTec
TM
Tunnel Liner
Our 30mm Tunnel Liner board has passed the most demanding
tunnel test currently available. Tested at the Efectis laboratory
in the Netherlands, it has achieved 3 hours against the RWS
temperature curve, 3 hours against the HCM temperature curve
and 4 hours against the ISO 834 temperature curves. These
test standards cover all of the highest specications likely to be
required in tunnel lining re protection.
The PassiveTec
TM
board has a uniquely high insulation
performance hence it achieves more than the required standard
of protection. In addition it is extremely stable when exposed to
moisture or water. This is critical in the tunnel lining area where
leakage and ash oods can occur regularly. Our team of re
engineers are ready to conduct specic tests as required by tunnel
construction projects.

PassiveTec
TM
Ductliner
Our 30mm Ductliner board has achieved the highest standard of
smoke evacuation and extraction duct protection. It is the only
magnesium oxide board on the market with both EN 1366 part
1 and part 8 accreditation. At 30mm it is also thinner than any
other competing solutions for 2 hours which is a huge advantage
in the congested plenums. We are proud to have passed the
smoke extraction standard at the maximum pressure level
Tested at European accredited laboratories that ensure
compliance across the EU.
PassiveTec
TM
is a proven high performance range of Fibre Reinforced Magnesium boards owned by SIG and PFP Fire Systems.
Its range of applications will be expanded further during 2014 but in the meantime offers two principal solutions prevalent in
construction and infrastructure projects. www.passivetec.com
Thinnest board to give 2 hours protection to EN1366 Pt 8

Structural Steel
Building regulations stipulate the period of re resistance required for any element of building structure. Beams and columns require at
least the same standard of re protection as that required by any element they support.
The temperature rise of structural steelwork under re test conditions provides a method of computing re protection thicknesses based
on accepted empirical formulae. The rate of increase in temperature of a steel cross section is determined by the ratio of the heated
surface area (A) to the volume (V).
This ratio (A/V) has units of m-1 and is known as the section factor.
The section factor is a measure of the rate at which a steel element will increase in temperature. The higher the value of the section
factor, the faster the element will heat up and therefore the thicker re protection required to satisfy a stipulated re protection period.
How to Specify
Promat VERMICULUX
-250 is a non-combustible mineral bound light weight board. It has smooth matt upper surface and is off-white in
appearance.
Promat PROMATECT
-250 provides a high degree of strength, dimension stability, and re protection to structural steelwork. Up to 120
minutes re resistance can be achieved depending on thickness of material used and the dimensions of the beam or column being
protected.
