1. The report has been run for the MHEALSC, PGDIPHEALSC, PGCERTHEALSC programme(s) and compares the current year to date
figures versus previous full years.
2. This report shows two views:
a) Year Commenced: this is the first year this enrolment is associated with a programme. Students ARE ONLY counted once - on this
commenced year. If a students swops programmes and then completes the original programme this reports assumes that all of the years
between the year commenced and the completion are part of the enrolments in the original programme. Note if a student enrols in a BA
and then a BA/BSC in a following year they will counted twice.
b) All Enrolments: this counts ALL students who are enrolled in the programmes PER YEAR.
3.
This document was run on the 25/06/2014 and shows data prior to this date. The data is normally updated every 24 hours.
4. Major: The subject chosen as the main area of study for a degree. A minimum of 12 points in the subject at 300-level must be studied
before a subject can be described as a major.
5. Endorsements: An area of specialisation within a degree. To pass an endorsement you must pass certain required courses in addition to
the general requirements for the degree you are studying. Upon completion, the endorsement appears on students official transcript.
6. Main Subject is a particular area of study offered within a course . A main area of study for a degree programme, that if studied to the
required level can convert to a major.
7. Priority Subject is main subject area for a degree programme.
8. Course Subject is the first four characters of a course code. This enables you to group a series of courses together e.g. all ZOOL
courses.
9. Professional specialisation for a Bachelor of Engineering Degree programme. Chosen in the year following the intermediate year.
10. Professional Year: professional stage of Bachelor of Engineering Degree
11. Ethnicity Priority : On enrolment a student has the opportunity to identify themselves with up to three ethnic groups. To present these
three choices as a single group, Stats NZ merges each group into a larger group. Each larger group is then assigned a weighting or
ranking. Ethnicity Priority adopts this ranking system. Whichever of the three original ethnic groups has the highest ranking becomes the
students single Ethnicity Priority. This way the student only occurs in one group rather than up to 3.
12. Admission Reason is how a student came to satisfy the entry requirements for a course/programme of study. There are many. The main
one for first-years straight from secondary school is 'NZ UE Through NCEA'. For first-year Degree students self-identify the reason on first
enrolment. Checks are made within Jade SMS to assess NCEA eligibility, unless eligible via 20+ Adult Admission.
13. School Region is defined by the geographical region within New Zealand where the last attended secondary school of enrolled students
is located
14. The students included are those who are enrolled, or withdrawn without a fee refund.
15. Co-coded courses only show all courses that have been identified as co-coded for the current year. These courses have been manually
identified by the colleges and needs to be updated each year.
16. Further definitions can be found on the student reporting sharepoint site:

Footnotes:
1. Historical years are full years. Current and future years will have enrolments so far.
Definitions:
1. Headcount is a count of enrolled students. However, because each enrolment has more than one record associated with it (i.e.
students enrol in many courses, some enrol in more than one programme, and programmes belong to more than one department, college
etc.) caution must be used when reporting on headcount.
