Dear Sir or Madam,

TURBOMECA has been informed of several uncommanded in-flight shut-downs following failure
of the 41-tooth pinion gear which is part of the 41/23-tooth bevel gear of the accessory gearbox
(module M01). Investigations into these events have revealed that the quality in the bevel gear
mesh may be a contributing factor to the failure.
TURBOMECA has recently developed a vibration check to assess the quality of the bevel gear
mesh.
As stated in the first version of this SL, this check is now included in the engine or module M01
acceptance CCT and systematically applied in new production and during level 4 repairs.
Also stated in the first version of this SL, a check of the entire single-engine fleet was requested
in Mandatory SB No. 292 72 2849 (ARRIEL 2B, 2B1, 2B1A) issued in early December 2013.

We would like to specify:
- The result of the check performed to determine whether or not the module needs to be removed
and the associated deadline, is the highest value of all the measurements taken.
- The potential disparity between measurements was taken into account during establishment of
the removal criteria.
- Several checks only need to be performed if a report indicating a data invalid error is received.

Mesdames, Messieurs,
TURBOMECA souhaite vous informer des amliorations venir concernant la prvention de la
contamination du circuit carburant. La prsence deau dans le circuit carburant gnre de la
corrosion dans les parties internes de lensemble pompe HP/BP doseur (HMU) ou des
accessoires qui peut induire des dysfonctionnements.
La contamination du circuit carburant moteur a deux origines principales : la non-conformit de la
qualit carburant et lingestion deau et/ou de produits de lavage par le drain HMU.
Afin de rsoudre la premire TURBOMECA rappelle limportance de respecter les instructions
des avionneurs afin de sassurer que le moteur soit aliment avec une qualit de carburant
adquate.
Afin de rsoudre la seconde, TURBOMECA a dvelopp des amliorations du circuit carburant
pour rduire le risque dingestion deau lors de lapplication des tches de maintenance de la
veine dair
Nous avons effectivement constat que lors des oprations de lavage/dcrassage du moteur
sous ventilation, du produit de lavage provenant du drain de fond de chambre de combustion
pouvait remonter dans le drain du HMU.
Ceci est possible car les drains fond de chambre et HMU sont communicants dans le collecteur
de drain.
Afin de prvenir cette contamination, TURBOMECA a dvelopp la modification TU 180 (Service
Bulletin 292 71 2180) qui consistera sgrguer ces deux drains dans le collecteur.
Dans lattente du dploiement de cette modification TU 180, TURBOMECA vous recommande,
avant chaque rinage/lavage/dcrassage/schage effectu sur ventilation, de dconnecter la
tuyauterie du drain du HMU (item 71-71-00-01-010) au niveau de sa jonction infrieure. La
garder dconnecte durant toute la dure de la procdure. (Nota : Il se peut que du liquide de
nettoyage scoule de la tuyauterie dconnecte).
