CYLINDER AND CONE

A. DEFINITION
-Cylinder
Cylinder is a prism in which the bases are circles. Cylinder also mean a
bangun ruang which restricted by two parallel and congruent circles and also
restricted by set of perpendicular lines and intersect that two circles.

A cylinder has three parts, namely the flat top, flat base, and the curved
surface. h is the height of the cylinder and r is the radius of the base.
There are also the characteristic of cylinder, that are : has two flanks, the
base and the top are circles, has three area of sides ( two area of circles (base and
top) , and one curved surface).

-Cone
A cone is like a pyramid but with a circular base instead of a polygonal
base. Cone also mean a bangun ruang which restricted by a circle (called base
area) and also restricted by set of lines which pass trough one point (called top)
and also pass trough the circle.

A cone has two parts, namely the base and the lateral, h is the height
of the cone, r is the radius of the base, and s is the slant height.
Characteristic of cone: has two side areas ( one side area of circle
and one side area of the blanket of cone), has two lateral and one vertex.

B. SURFACE AREA
- Surface Area of Cylinder

Circumference of circle = 2 r
Curved surface = Circumference of circle height of the cylinder
= 2 r h
Total surface area of cylinder = area of curved surface + 2 (area of circular
surface)
= 2 r h + 2 r
2

= 2 r ( h + r )
