1. Supposing a clock takes 7 seconds to strike 7, how long will the same clock take to strike
10?
Answer: While striking 7 the clock strikes its first gong at 7 o’ clock and it strikes
6 more at regular intervals. These 6 internals take 7 seconds so that the intervals
between gongs is 7/6 seconds. However, to strike 10 there are 9 intervals each
taking 7/6 seconds for a total of 10 ½ seconds

OR

For 1 gong------ 7/6 sec

Therefore, for 9 gongs--------- ?

x= 9X7 = 10.5
6

2. What is the four-digit number in which the first digit is one-third the second, the third is
the sum of the first and second, and the last is three times the second?
Answer: 1349

3. What does MDCLXVI represent?

Answer: 1666

4. What is the value of ‘x’? Given 16x = 30+x

Answer:
16X =30+X
16-X =30
15X =30
X = 30/15
X=2

5. Here is a logical pattern: O.T.T.F.F.S.S.E.N. What are the next nine letters?
Answer: T.E.T.T.F.F.S.S.E… first letter of consecutive whole number names

6. Find the odd number in the sequence. 6, 13, 18, 25, 30, 37, 41.
Answer: The differences between two successive terms from the beginning are
7,5,7,5,7,4. So 41 is the wrong answer

7. If you were to climb a 40 feet ice mountain in a manner where you would be able to
climb 4 ft in a day and then slipped down 3 ft everyday, in how many days would you
complete the climb?
Answer: It would be 37 days as at the end of 36 days you would have finished
36ft and on the next day you complete 4ft remaining hence finish your climb

8. If all the dimensions of a one-litre bottle are tripled what is the volume of the new
bottle?

then the new volume will be 3X3X3 times the original volume

9. What are the next number in this series: 2+5+11+23+47+……?

Answer: The next is 95 as the logic is 2x + 1.

10. Johnny was on his way to the market and met a man who had four wives. Each of the
four wives had 4 dogs and they in turn had four puppies. Talking all things into

11. Assume the ladder is NOT an extension ladder. A 25 ft ladder is placed with its foot 7 ft
away from a building. If the top of the ladder slips down 4 ft, how many feet will the
bottom slide out?
Answer: 8 ft.First triangle: 7 squared + 24 squared = 25 squared, so the top of
the ladder was 24 feet high. 24 - 4= 20. 25 squared - 20 squared = 225. Take the
square root of that and you get 15: the new base of the triangle. 15 - 7 (the old
base) = 8ft

12. In the middle of a round pool lies a beautiful water lily. The water-lily doubles in size
every day. After exactly 20 days the lily will cover the complete pool. After how many
days will half of the pool be covered by the water lily?
Answer: As the water-lily doubles its size every day and the complete pool is
covered after 20 days, half of the pool will be covered one day before that, after
19 days. Conclusion: After 19 days half of the pool will be covered by the water-
lily

13. Glenn and Jason each have a collection of cricket balls. Glenn said that if Jason would
give him 2 of his balls they would have an equal number; but, if Glenn would give Jason
2 of his balls, Jason would have 2 times as many balls as Glenn. How many balls does
Jason have?
Answer: Jason has 14 balls and Glenn has 10 balls. If Jason would give Glenn 2
balls, they would have an equal number (i.e., 12 balls each). If Glenn would give
Jason 2 balls, then Jason would have 16 balls and Glenn would have 8 balls. Thus,
Jason would have 2 times as many balls as Glenn.

14. What number comes next in this sequence: 1/1 3/2 7/5 17/12 41/29….. ?
Answer: 99/70: each successive term better approximates the square root of two
and is formed as (a + 2b) / (a + b).

15. The river Trent is 4100 inches wide, which happens to be a fantastic number. There is a
magnificent, perfectly straight, bridge, which spans the river. During a recent survey of
the area it was found that one seventh of the overall length of the bridge was on one
side of the river and one eighth of the bridge was on the other side of the river. How

long is the bridge, which spans the river Trent?

Answer: 5600 inches: x/7 + x/8 + 4100 = x, where x is the length of the bridge.

16. Can you find three consecutive odd numbers that total 1287 when multiplied together?
Answer: 9, 11 and 13.

17. Three friends divided some bullets equally. After all of them shot 4 bullets the total
number of bullets remaining is equal to the bullets each had after division. Find the
original number divided?
Answer: Assume that initial there were 3*X bullets. So they got X bullets each
after division. All of them shot 4 bullets. So now they have (X - 4) bullets each.
But it is given that,after they shot 4 bullets each, total number of bullets
remaining is equal to the bullets each had after division i.e. X Therefore, the
equation is 3 * (X - 4) = X 3 * X - 12 = X 2 * X = 12 X = 6 Therefore the total
bullets before division is = 3 * X = 18
