The long term management education at IPE is intended to turn
out industry ready managers. The post-graduate participants
in various management courses are trained intensively in this
pursuit to help industry achieve its objectives of stakeholders
satisfaction. The faculty members through their deep exposure
to research, training and consultancy fulfill this task. IPE

Objectives
The objectives of IPE are :

To promote research in economics, commerce, administrative and management sciences, energy,


urban management, health sciences, biotechnology, information technology, trade and intellectual
property rights and behavioural sciences.

To conduct Training Courses, Conferences, Seminars, Management Development Programmes and


undertake Consultancy.

books, journals and other material concerning social sciences.

To establish and maintain libraries and information


services to facilitate the study of public/private enterprise and Government.

Post Graduate Programmes 2014-16

The Institute
The Institute of Public Enterprise (IPE), Hyderabad, is a
non-profit educational society established in 1964. It is
devoted to Education, Training, Research and Consultancy
for business enterprises in the public and private sector.
IPE is a premier Business School in India and is recognized
as a Centre of Excellence by the Indian Council of Social
Science Research (ICSSR), Ministry of Human Resource
Development, Government of India, New Delhi, for
doctoral studies. It has also been recognized by eight
universities in India for guidance of Ph D scholars. It has
developed strong linkages with industry and academic
institutions and is the founder member of the Association
of Indian Management Schools (AIMS) and is also the
member of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and
Computer Society of India (CSI).

Campus & Academic Infrastructure


IPE has been functioning in its present campus, since
1964, situated within the pictureque Osmania University
campus on a 5 acre site. The present campus has well
furnished Conference halls, Classrooms, an Auditorium
with a seating capacity of 200, Library, Canteen, etc. All
the modern facilities that enhance learning experiences
are provided in the campus.
With an idea to prepare for the growth, IPE will be shifting
to a new campus situated on 21 acres of land located 25
km north of Secunderabad. The design of the campus
that will include a hostel to house 400 students has
been completed with a view to provide an exciting and
enriching experience to the students and other residents.
All the facilities that are available in any modern campus
will be part of the new campus.

IPE's Transformation
Grooming NextGen Business Leaders: Recognising the
need to transform management students into business
leaders of tomorrow, IPE has been launching different
management education programmes with diverse
specialisation streams and a state-of-the-art course/
curriculum starting with its potent PGDM course, it has
added six more PGDM courses, namely those in Retail
& Marketing, Banking, Insurance & Financial Services,
International Business, Biotechnology, Human Resource
Management and Healthcare & Hospital Management.

audio-visual equipment, broadband internet connectivity,
which caters to the needs of the students and the participants

Institute, providing a conducive environment for learning.
It provides excellent facilities to the students and faculty for
their research, studies, training and consultancy activities.

IT Facilities
Knowledge of information technology is essential for
effective management. Keeping in view the IT trends
in the industry, the Institute has set up a well-equipped
Computer Centre with Servers, a large number of
Pentium PCs and a variety of peripherals. The Institute
has been recognized as centre for excellence by Microsoft
Corporation and is recipient of its ERP Package titled
Microsoft Navision. The Institute provides broadband
internet facility through its BSNL leased line of 4 Mbps to
ensure fast, reliable and uninterrupted internet services.
The entire IPE campus has been WiFi enabled providing
24 x 7 x 365 internet access to its students and employees.

The Institute has a strong core faculty with a wide range of


experience gained from research, consultancy, teaching
and practice of management. They have rich industry
and academic experience, international exposure and
experience of running training programmes for senior
IAS/IPS/IFS Officers, Government Officers and Corporate
Executives. The faculty members comprise a majority

Over four and half decades, the Institute has diversified


its scope of activities from Research and Consul-tancy
to Training and to Management Education. Starting
with research, the Institute soon found itself having to
undertake consultancy and responding to the training
needs of Government, Public Enterprises (Central and
State) and Corporate sector.

v With

the emergence of computer technology in


India, the Institute became a pioneer in the field of
computerization, assisting the State Government in
formulation of a computerization policy, developing
software for Government, PEs and public systems,
advising them on hardware choices and on the use
of computers as a decision support system, running
training programmes for personnel of PEs and public
systems, both general as well as tailor-made. In every
training programme, there is a component of training
in information technology.

accepted the offer of the Government of India to take


up training of the officers of the Indian Administrative
Services (IAS) in four week courses for those of 10-16
and 17-22 years' seniority, and one week refresher
courses, with vertical integration where officers of
6-32 years' seniority are brought together.

response to the requests of Public Enterprise


executives, a full-fledged post-experience threeyear part-time MBA (PE) programme for in-service
executives of Government, Public Enterprises (Central
and State)and Corporate sector was launched in the
year, 1981.

International Collaborations
IPE's academic, research, management consultancy
and educational accomplishments have drawn a few
international universities/institutions and organisations
towards entering into MoUs/tie-ups for collaboration
providing for student/faculty exchange, joint research
projects, etc., such as International Centre for Promotion
of Enterprise (ICPE), Lubljana, Slovenia, Kyungpook
University, Korea, Northeastern Illinois University, USA,
Monash University, Australia, etc.
IPE is now exploring tie-ups in USA, Europe, Japan,
Singapore, etc. Also, IPE has been accorded the status of
Affiliate Member by EFMD, Brussels which puts IPE in the
prestigeous league of about 500 institutions world wide
which enjoy this status.

Institute started two-year full time Post


Graduate Programmes with the approval of the
AICTE to provide skilled human resources to meet
the requirements of the Industry, to meet the
growing needs of qualified and competent persons
for the corporate sector.

The Institute has endeavored to maintain a balance


between research, consultancy and training, without
allowing either training or consultancy to detract
it from the original goal of research which remains
central to its work programme.

reaching out to the environment of PEs, the Institute

Working Papers, 200 Articles and Research Papers, 125
Research & Consultancy Reports.

Training

IPE's Multi-Faceted Activities


Linkages with Government, Corporate and
Academic Institutions
The Institute has close links at the national level with the
Planning Commission, Department of Public Enterprises
of the Government of India, Government of Andhra
Pradesh, and other State Governments, Indian Council
of Social Science Research (ICSSR), Standing Conference
of Public Enterprises (SCOPE), Indian Institute of Public
Administration (IIPA), Administrative Staff College of India
(ASCI) and the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs). It
has very good contacts with policy makers, public and
private sector and academicians.

Research
The Institute has a strong research wing with a number of
research scholars, sponsored by ICSSR and IPE, working
on topics of current interest. Its Ph D programme is one of
the largest in the social science field. Research, both basic
and applied, is the forte of the Institute and helps it in its
training and educational activities.

IPE offers a wide variety of training programmes


including Management Development and In-company
Programmes. The Institute's training programmes are
designed as Management Development Programmes for
the Corporate Executives and Government Officials at the
top and the middle levels. Each programme deals with
a specific functional area or theme and has a duration
of 2 days to 2 weeks. Over 2000 IAS/IFS Officers, 30,000
Senior / Middle level Executives from Central & State
Governments and the private sector have undergone
training at the Institute. The Institute has also conducted
Faculty Development Programmes and Refresher Courses
for the Faculty of different states sponsored by AICTE and
UGC. IPE conducts over 100 Management Development
Programmes in a year on topics of current interest to
Indian industry and Government.

Consultancy
The knowledge and insights gained in research have

Programme Structure
The programme structure is designed to meet the needs
of the industry and is in conformity with the AICTE guidelines. The first year of the Programme is devoted to the basic
courses, which deals with the important areas of business

with the opportunities to study and acquire the skills, which

Method of Teaching
The teaching method consists of theoretical as well as
practical sessions and includes lectures, exercises and
case studies. Faculty at IPE prepares cases and present
to the students. The sessions are mostly interactive and
participative for better learning and comprehension.
In order to groom the students to smart professionals,
quizzes and surprise tests are conducted to tap the
potential within the students. These are in addition to
the continuous evaluation by the faculty through out the
semester. In order to relate the classroom knowledge
to shop floor experience, industrial visits are conducted.
In addition, seminars and guest lectures by the captains
from business enterprises are also conducted.

Assessment Scheme
Students are required to maintain 85% attendance in
each subject in each semester. The Institute follows
a system of continuous, mid-term and end-term
examination scheme for its students. As far as the
appraisal is concerned, the student is evaluated on a
continuous basis by each member of faculty throughout
the semester on parameters such as attendance,
behaviour, punctuality, class-room performance with
respect to oral presentations, written assignments
and group discussions, as well as the extra-curricular

activities. Semester wise, the mid-term examinations are


conducted in each of the subjects followed by end-term
examinations which are designed to test the acquisition
of knowledge and learning skills the students in each of
the subjects during the semester.

The Institute organizes Sanskriti a National level
Business School Management Festival every year to
