1- GENERAL INFORMATION

This management manual provides an overview of the health, safety & environmental ativities of
CSC aross the !" and #reland$ The %ealth, Safety & &nvironmental management system is
maintained 'y !" %S&& Team$ The manual and proedures are designed to apply to all CSC sites(
however some additional loal arrangements may 'e applia'le and will 'e defined 'y the site safety
managers)offiers$
The *anagement System has 'een developed to aomplish the o'+etives set out in the %ealth,
Safety & &nvironment poliies and ompliane to 'oth ,%S-S1.001 and %S/0123, and also to
#S,14001$ #t is oriented towards the provision and maintenane of a healthy, safe and sustaina'le
environment in aordane with legislation, provision of ade5uate training to ensure ompetent staff
and pro6atively reduing the ris7 of aidents or environmental issues$ - well6strutured system is
an essential management resoure in the optimisation and ontrol of the sites ativities, produts and
servies$
The doumented safety health & environmental management system is made availa'le for the CSC
team on the CSC intranet site and on the 8otus 9otes repositories in the CSC !" %S&& *anual and
Site Safety :ile$ The organisational repositories ontain Poliies, Proedures, forms and templates$
Completed reords are retained on the loal repository of the site)area to whih they apply$

CSC !" are responsi'le for providing a range of servies within the #T setor, namely management
onsulting, systems integration, #T infrastruture outsouring and researh servies for lients either
'ased on their own premises, or through CSC;s own managed premises$
This management manual defines the poliy and general priniples appropriate to the %S&&
*anagement System$ #t overs all stages from impat and ris7 assessment to monitoring and
maintenane$ The management system also applies to CSC homewor7ers, loation independent
0mo'ile3 wor7ers, and those travelling on ompany 'usiness$ #t also overs ontrators wor7ing on our
underta7ings and 7ey suppliers who must omplete with the relevant re5uirements of the %S&&
poliies and *anual$ The management system is reviewed at intervals to ensure it reflets urrent
!" legislation and 'est pratie, and meets CSC;s 'usiness goals and re5uirements$
The #S,14001 ertifiation urrently applies to the environmental management of the provision of #T
solutions and management servies with related 'usiness and tehnial onsultany$ CSC &uropean
%ead5uarters, 7ey offies and <ataentres in the !" are #S,14001 ompliant, with further 7ey CSC
loations 'eing 'rought on6stream on a rolling programme$

CSC we' site$

ris7 assessments that apply to routine CSC ativities$ The ris7 ontrols doumented within the ompany wide
ris7 assessments are ategorised into mandatory and additional ontrols$ Speifi loal ris7 assessments are
ompleted 'y trained ris7 assessors$ >efer to the CSC %S&& *anual, Setion 2 Core Proedures$
The ma+ority of CSC underta7ings are onduted in an offie or omputer room environments and as suh the
assoiated ris7 assessments and ontrol measures are ompany wide and low ris7$

also reognising that the lient will have signifiantly more eAperiene in the area$

have the appropriate tools, e5uipment and PP& to perform their duties safely in suh environments$

team to the organisation through site safety offiers, regional safety meetings and internal ommuniations
media suh as email and the CSC intranet$
,n a regular 'asis a review of the legal doumentation is onduted 'y the %S&& team to ensure thatB6
-ll files relating to %S&& regulations are up6to6date
Proedures)reords are in plae and up6to6date to ensure that all pertinent regulations are 'eing

to the agenda of the Corporate >esponsi'ility Steering Doard for review$

>esponsi'ility <iretor and the !" Doard Sponsor 'ased on reported ompliane levels, audited defiienies
and legislative re5uirements$ Some proedures relating to performane monitoring and measuring are set and
managed 'y %>$ Targets are inluded in the performane appraisal system for >egional Safety *anagers$
The %S&& Team monitors progress at monthly team meetings against these o'+etives and targets and
speifi pro'lem areas are reviewed$ !" wide progress is reviewed routinely 'y the !" Corporate
>esponsi'ility <iretor, within the *anagement >eview proess and annual management review, to
inorporate new developments and new or modified ativities, produts and servies$ *anagement

9- IM2LEMENTATION AN1 O2ERATION

CSC and its Doard of <iretors aept their legal and moral o'ligations to ensure, as far as reasona'ly
pratia'le, a safe and healthy wor7ing environment and safe systems of wor7 in order to protet employees
and anyone else who may 'e affeted 'y its operations$ #n pursuane of this o'ligation they have appointed
safety speialists to manage health, safety and environmental issues within the !" organisation$
CSC onsiders health safety & the environment to 'e a line management responsi'ility and as suh the health,
safety and environmental proesses are implemented 'y loal management using appropriate management
system proedures to ensure ativities, produts and servies meet applia'le regulatory standards$
-ll employees are enouraged to partiipate in the management proesses and eah loation will provide
safety & environment representatives, first aiders, fire marshals and the li7e as re5uired 'y loal onditions and
determined 'y environmental impat and ris7 assessment$

Personnel are on oasion transitioned to CSC from other ompanies and as suh 'ring with them praties
and ways of thin7ing that are different to eAisting praties at CSC$ Their ontri'utions are therefore eAtremely
valua'le as they 'ring with them opportunities for CSC;s praties to grow and develop$ -ll personnel are
enouraged to ontri'ute to the praties put in plae for eAellene in health safety or environment$ The !"
%S&& manual is dynami and grows as new ways are disovered$ 9o proess or proedure is 'eyond 'eing
improved$
-rrangements, proesses and proedures are regularly reviewed and updated if appropriate$ Changes are
mar7ed on the CSC !" %S&& manual and the audit history gives a 'rief aount of the hange$ %alf yearly
regional safety meetings of the site safety offiers give an opportunity for hanges to 'e disussed, proposed or
re5uested$ <istri'ution lists through the site safety hampions and site safety offier allow for fast asade of
messages to all personnel$
The CSC %S&& team monitor we' sites and various periodials to 7eep up to date with new or suggested
improvements and at upon relevant issues$
Close ontat is made with lient %S&& departments and views and suggestions eAhanged in order to gain an
understanding of similar proesses with a view to improvement of CSC praties$

assessments$ #t is availa'le to all CSC employees from a variety of platforms suh as the CSC networ7, from

The health and safety team are ompetent to provide training on a wide variety of health, safety and
environmental topis inluding the #,S% aredited G@or7ing Safely; ourse$
CSC engages the servies of eAternal trainers to provide ertain su'+ets and for aredited training suh as
:irst -ider training ourses$
%igh demand training ourses are provided at 7ey loations throughout the ountry and an 'e 'oo7ed onto 'y
any employee after they have attained approval from their line manager$ 8oal managers an also provide
training at any site on demand$ >efer to CSC !" %S&& *anual).$ Training)%&S Training Courses & <ates
CDT training ourses are availa'le to all employees on topis suh as &nvironmental -wareness, <S&
wor7station ergonomis, eletrial awareness and waste management$ >efer to CSC !" %S&& *anual).$

Hideo)<H< and C< training is also availa'le on re5uest from a entral li'rary on topis suh as driving, manual
handling and fire awareness$ These an 'e utilised 'y individuals, or 'e site safety offier or ris7 assessor led
training sessions in loal wor7plaes dependant on need$ 9ote videos)<H<, C<s and CDT are intended for low
ris7 areas and awareness training$ Speifi training suh as ontrator management ris7 assessment 0other
than offie environments3 and permit to wor7 training will 'e ompetent trainer led$
