Articolul hotărât este the, iar articolul nehotărât este a (dacă este urmat de
un cuvânt care începe cu o vocală) sau an (dacă este urmat de un cuvânt care
începe cu o consoană), dar mai există şi articolul z e r o sau neexprimat. Se
menţionează de asemenea omisiunea articolului.
Articolul hotărât
Spre deosebire de limba română, articolul hotărât the apare foarte des după
prepoziţii: on the table – pe masă; for the students – pentru studenţi; in the
street – pe stradă etc.
He is in the library – E în bibliotecă.
The longest (cel mai lung), the most interesting (cel mai interesant)

Pronumele şi adjectivul relativ
G. whose – The girl whose coat is red is Liz. Fata a cărei haină este roşie
este Liz.
D. whom – This is the engineer (whom) they spoke to. – Acesta este
inginerul cu care au vorbit.
Ac. Whom – The man (whom) we greet is our manager. – Bărbatul pe care îl
salutăm este directorul nostru.
That – The person that is in his office is their representative. – Persoana care
este în biroul lui este reprezentantul lor.
That – The book (that) I saw is very interesting. – Cartea pe care am văzut-o
este foarte interesantă.
What – What I can tell you is not much. – Ceea ce îţi pot spune nu este mult.
Numeralul
Numeralul cardinal
Pentru separarea cifrelor într-un număr, punctul din limba română este redat
prin virgulă în limba engleză, iar virgula din limba română este înlocuită de
punct.

Literele ve devin f înaintea terminaţiei -th (five – the fifth; twelve – the

Denumeşte fracţiuni:
- comune: 1 / 2 – a (one) half; 1 / 3 – a (one) third; 1 / 4 – a (one) fourth
- zecimale: 4. 25 – four point twenty-five; 19. 75 – nineteen point
seventy-five (în limba română punctul din limba engleză este redat
prin virgulă)
Numeralul multiplicativ
Arată proporţia în care creşte o cantitate: once (one time) – odată; double
(twofold, two times) – dublu, îndoit, de două ori; thrice (threefold, three
times) – de trei ori. De la cifra patru mi departe se adaugă la numeralul
cardinal substantivul times.
