Giraffe Hat Tutorial

Stitch Explanation:

Stockinette Stitch (Knit 1 row, Purl 1 row)

Supplies:
-2 Balls 2.5oz/ 70.9g worsted 4 ply 100% cotton yarn (2 colors)
-Size 3 (3.25mm), 14 straight knitting needles
-2 large stitch holders
-Tapestry needle
-Sewing needle & matching thread to yarn

To make earflap hat, use my Newborn (0-9 months) Earflap Hat
Pattern.
Spots (make 5+):
In size 3 (3.25mm) knitting needles, cast on 4 sts.
Purl.
Increase by 1 st at beg of each row in St st.
Stop increasing when you have 8 sts.
In St st knit 2 rows.
On next row k2tog, K7 sts.
Purl 2 together, P6 sts.
Knit 2 together, K5 sts.
P2tog, P4 sts.
K2tog, K3 sts.
Purl.
Cast off.
Cut yarn end to 1 inch.

Finish- Weave in yarn ends. Position spots around hat, pin in
place. With sewing needle and matching thread, sew spots down,
taking care to avoid the thread showing around the edges.

Horns (make 2):
In size 3 (3.25mm)knitting needles, cast on 6 sts.
In St st knit for 1 inch.
In second colored yarn, knit in St st 1 inch.
In first colored yarn, knit in St st 1 inch.
Cast off.
Cut yarn end to 1 inch.

Finish-Weave in yarn ends. With sewing needle and matching
thread, fold horn vertically, WSs out and sew around both
edges. Turn inside out, RS. Sew horn to one side of the hat,
about a inch to the left or right of the ear. Avoiding the
direct center of the hat. Repeat for second horn.

Ears (make 4):
In size 3 (3.25mm) knitting needles, cast on 4 sts.
Purl.
Increase by 1 st at beg of each row in St st.
Stop increasing when you have 8 sts.
In St st knit for 7 rows. End on a knit row.
Cast off.
Cut yarn end to 1 inch.

Inner Ear (make 2):
Cast on 4 sts.
Purl.
Increase by 1 st at beg of each row in St st.
Stop increasing when you have 6 sts.
In St st knit for 4 rows. End in a knit row.
Cast off.
Cut yarn end to 1 inch.

Finish- Weave in yarn ends. With sewing needle and matching
thread, sew 2 pieces of ear together WSs out, and then turn
inside out, RS. Then sew inner ear in matching thread to one
side of the ear. Sew on one side of hat; making sure that the
seam of the hat is positioned going down the middle vertically
in the center of the back. Repeat for second ear.
Mane:
Cast on 4 sts.
In St st knit for 2 inches.
Cast off.
Tail:
Cut four 3 inch yarn pieces. With tapestry needle, take the yarn
pieces and thread them through bottom seam of mane. When each is
threaded through, take sewing needle and matching thread and sew
across bottom seam of mane to secure tail strands.
