One Mans Opinion

Part I
I received an anonymous letter the other day that contained copies of
articles from the Savannah Moanin News and a Seven (7) Point
Manifesto that criticized the demolition of the Meldrim Row apart-
ments on 33rd & 34th Streets to make way for the construction of the
new Central Police Precinct. I guess by sending me the letter and in-
formation I was supposed to join them in the protestation of the demolition of these Historic
properties.

First, I have been following, with some interest, the process unfolding in the citys attempt to purchase
the properties for community use. After much thought, I am on the same page as my anonymous
writer as to the inappropriateness of the purchase and demolition of the properties, but NOT because
of any historical significance. I do not see the importance of the properties and please dont send me
any information to the contrary, Im really not that interested in them.

I am against the purchase and relocation to the Meldrim Row because the city already owns an appro-
priate property on Waters Avenue. I understand there are some facility and leasing issues, but nothing
that could not be overcome with some planning and hard work. It just didnt make any sense to me to
see improvements paid for and made to the parking lot as an inducement for potential buyers. How
ridiculous is that? Who decided that putting lipstick on a pig was going to make it look better? Who
says the new buyer wants planters taking the place of parking spaces. The problem was never the
parking lot, it was the facility.

Sometimes, the simplest plan makes the most sense. How about this, use imminent domain to get
what ever tenants out and 2. use the money that was going to be spent on the purchase Meldrim Row
to demolish the Waters Avenue shopping center and build the new Central Precinct there. Yes, I
know, there are probably other issues, but this just makes too much sense just to say sorry, the roof
leaks so we cant renovate. Isnt repair part of renovation? Use the building youve bought City
Council. And make the Hysterical, I mean Historically Inclined, Happy at the same time.

Just, One Mans Opinion.

one of each digit. So must
every column, as must every 3x3
square. Each Sudoku has a
unique solution that can be reached
logically without guessing.
The Solution is at the end of the Book.
No Peeking.
