Scooptram Automation
Technical specification

The Scooptram Automation, a semi-autonomous system that

features state-of-the-art technology for personal safety, enhanced performance and flexibility. By operating an automated
Scooptram loader, the operator has full control and supervision
of the remote loader and enclosed production section.
Features
Safety and productivity

As a step in the continuous drive to improve personal

safety and working environment for the operator, as
well as increased productivity, Atlas Copco now offers
Scooptram Automation. The semi-autonomous system
includes tele-remote control, auto tram and auto dump for
Atlas Copcos latest Scooptram loaders equipped with Rig
Control System (RCS).
This makes it possible to avoid human exposure in unsafe
areas such as unsupported stopes, or in any other load,
haul and dump applications. Scooptram Automation is
efficient, reliable, easy to use and has controls similar
to those in the cab of the vehicle. The remote operators
station provides the operator with an ergonomic and safe
working environment.

Operators station

The operators station includes the control panel, a monitor, server cabinet, desk and chair. The operator handles
the vehicle and the system with the control panel and gets
visible feedback from on-board cameras and lasers, on to
operators desk monitor. Full vehicle data information is
displayed along with remote on-line diagnostics.

Tele-remote

Tele-remote operation allows the operator to have full

control and supervision over the vehicle from the control
room in a remote location. The operator has the possibility to tram in second gear.

Auto tram

On-board sensors and advanced software controls the

vehicle in Auto tram mode. Tramming in this state along
the pre-recorded path it is possible to tram faster, more
accurate and consistant than as in manual mode with operator. The system offers the operator seamless transition
when the operator switch from a pre-recorded auto tram
route to tele-remote mode.

certified for production.

Communication system
The communication installation can be a local installation or an installation supplied by Atlas Copco
Local area network (LAN) or Wireless local area
network (WLAN) must be compliant to the Ethernet
standard ieee 802.3 as well as the Wi-Fi standards
ieee 802.11 a, b or g
The network requires a reservation of 20 fixed IPaddresses to be able to use a dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP) server
One vehicle utilizes a bandwidth of approximately 2
Mb/s while in operation

An access point (AP) has to be set up as a single

channel network, using one of the three orthogonal
channels 1, 6 or 11
The WLAN can not be encrypted in any way and has
to broadcast it service set identifier (SSID)
Signal strength should not drop below -60 dBm along
the entire route of the vehicle.

Safety system
The safety system is based on Programming Logic
Control (PLC) and ensures the safety of the mine
personnel and the containment of the vehicle within
the designated work area
To ensure redundancy the safety system works in
paralell with the vehicles control system
The PLC in the safety system has dual cores and
failsafe outputs, it is classified in category 4 safety

functions in accordance to EN 954-1

The PLCs communicates with each other over a
controller-area network (CAN), with a proprietary
CAN protocol.
To meet the customer requirements the safety system
could easily be customized

Safety cell
System is designed to have one vehicle per safety cell.
The maximum cable length of CAN is 450 meters in a
cell. The maximum number of safety gates in the safety
system is 30. A safety gate consists of a safety box, a light
curtain and an area restriction light. A safety gate can be
added as needed for increased protection.
