Potential Statistics of Dlingo District
The orchard is located in the Mangunan, Dlingo District, Bantul,
Yogyakarta. These place can be reached by traveling about an hour from
the Yogyakartas downtown. The Mangunan Orchard is about 15 km from
the capital of Bantul and 35 km from Yogyakartas downtown. Access to
the orchard can be reached from the city of Yogyakarta, just heading East
Imogiri Road (Giwangan Bus Station) and go straight to the south. Once we
arrived in Imogiri, then take the path for Imogiri - Dlingo (see directions),
about 5 km we will see the Mangunan Village Hall. There is no directions
to the location of the Orchard, we have to ask to the citizen to reach the
orchard. The orchard was built by the Department of Agriculture and
Forestry in 2003 over an area of 23.6 ha and 325 m above sea.
Dlingo Subdistrict located in the highlands with the hot weather as its
trademark. The highest temperature recorded in the Dlingo subdistrict is
32 C with a minimum temperature is 24 C. Dlingo subdistrict is in the
form of hill and mountain. Dlingo subdistrict is neighboring with Srimulyo
Village (northern region), Oya (eastern and southern regions) while
the western region directly adjacent to the Girirejo village. Mangunan
villages area is around 952 ha , muntuk village is 1,285 ha, village Dlingo
is 916 ha , Temuwuh village is 767 ha, Jatimulyo village 891 ha , and
776 ha for Terong village so that the amount of the Dlingo subdistrict is
around 5,587 Ha. The region is shaped in hills and karst that is fulfiled by
rivers including Kaliurang river, Joko river, Ayu river, Ngreboh river and
Sambeng river.
Subdistrict Dlingo inhabited by 12,112 families or 43.880 citizen. The
population density in the district is 750 jiwa/km2. At Dlingo, most of
the residents are farmers. From some surveys, 8,852 people or 20.88 %
of Dlingos population is working in the agricultural sector. Number of
Padukuhan (a smallest region in a village) and Rukun Tetangga(RT) (a
neighborhood association that is work as the lowest aministrative unit
for government) in Dlingo subdistrict are 6 padukuhans with 42 RTs
at Mangunan village, 11 padukuhans with 60 RTs at Muntuk Village, 10
padukuhans with 47 RTs at Dlingo Village, 12 padukuhans with 62 RTs
at Temuwuh village, 10 padukuhans with 54 RTs at Jatimulyo village,
and 9 padukuhans with 40 RTs at Terong village. At Dlingo there is some
supporting infrastructure, including: 2 health centers and 6 sub health
centers, 94 Mosques, 95 Langgars and 17 Musolla

The Others fruit varieties aim to various fruit such as: Klengkeng, Soursop, Matoa,
Cempedak, Guava dersono, Jackfruit and Papaya. In addition to picking the fruit activity,
visitors also can take fshing, outbound, and camping programs.

At Dlingo subdistrict, there are 26 elementary schools, 9 junior high schools, and 3 senior
high school. Around 30 % of citizen in the Dlingo live in poverty. Poverty also impacts on
the Dlingos population education development. Based on survey, there is a great number
of dropout students at Dlingos area. High dropout rates due to several factors , mostly they
already have married or have decided to go to earn money than go to school. In addition,
the publics negative insight about the importance of going to school and economic
incompetence are also an obstacle to enhance about educational awareness. In addition,
there are 116 children at the school-age who have not attended school. Besides, data
shows that the illiteracy rate in Dlingo as many as 900 people. A number of solutions from
government to break poverty has also been done. frstly, validating families under poverty
data. Secondly, rice allotment for those who listed as families under poverty. Then, the
government does some empowerement to the citizen such as handcraft, capital assistance,
etc. The number of children who drop-out from school can be seen as follow:
Beautiful scenery can be seen directly from the top of the Orchard. There are two paths to
access the hill, for bikers and pedestrians . The streets are in the form of up and down hills,
valleys, and forests. The access bring the bikers and pedestrians directly to the location of
the orchard. In spite of the Orchard are equipped by footpath and parking area, there is no
public transportation to the site and it only can be reached by private vehicle either two or
four wheels. To enjoy the trip to the hill there are pedestrian pathways , which at this point
we can enjoy ancient rocks route that is scattered on the hill. One of the striking object of
the panorama is a bridge that divides the river , the bridge function is vital because it is the
only way that can be accessed by the citizen around the Oya river.

There are some facilities at Mangunans orchard, such as:
For mountain biking, there are 2 tracks at the venue. Downhill track as long as
2,300 m and 3,800 m for the cross-country track.
Most citizen at Mangunan village earn money by being farmers.There are several
programs to enhance the livelihoods of the citizen, such as:
a. PEKM PLUS ( Pemberdayaan Ekonomi Keluarga Miskin Plus ).
In Dlingo subdistrict, the government held a Rice Cultivation Organic
Movement program. The program supported by the existence of Dlingos
potential in terms of the availability of farms waste, agriculturals waste,
woods waste and water for agriculture. Farming communities from Terong
village and Muntuk village facilitated by the District BPP Dlingo collaborates
with the joint activities between the Board of Family Welfare of Women
and Family Planning ( BKKPPKB ) and the Department of Agriculture and
Forestry Bantul to implement an organic rice cultivation through PEKM PLUS (
Economic Empowerment of Families Under Poverty).

The activities start by forming a group consists of 15 persons, then each group
will manage the loan capital as amount of 15.000.000 IDR. From the results
in group meetings, the capital will be used for the cultivation of organic rice
allocation for wage, seeds , organic fertilizer, organic pesticides and lands
lease. The goal of this activities are:
1 . Formation of productive activity
2 . Realization of Organic Agriculture
3 . Maintenance of Land and environment
4 . Reduction of toxic residues in the soil and foodstufs
5 . An enhancement of knowledge , consciousness and income of farmers
6 . Realization of an independent farmer groups
b. National Crafts Council (Dekranas)
The establishment of the National Crafts Council (Dekranas) is under the
Department of Culture and Tourism supervision. Relevant government
division always make some regular visits to the villages in Bantul Region,
especially at Cempluk, Mangunan, Dlingo. Dekranas serves as the connector
between the craftsmen and the government in order to guard and assist
the artisans.The purpose of this council is to make the craftsmen more
independent and be able to produce a higher quality craft and higher income.
In adition, this council also has a goal to attract the participation of local youth
in supporting the craft industry in Bantul, because 72% Yogyakartas craft
comes from Bantul.
c. Ecotourism
The ecotourism program concerned with conservation of a place that is used
as a tourist attraction. Ecotourism can be used as a venue for education
and awareness for tourists, local communities and other stakeholders
involved about the importance of the environment, respect the concepts
of preservation and conservation of the environment and local culture.
Ecotourism seeks to control the economic motives towards the preservation
of natural resources can create an added value for society.
d. Cow Husbandry
With a very diverse number of plants, fertilization of the plant has become
a necessity in Mangunan village. The citizen of the village breed cows and
use its dung to be a natural fertilizer. In the hilly area around the Oya River,
the husbandry are breeding around 66 cows. Department of agriculture and
forestry at Bantul district has a program to help cattle farmers groups. The
cow dung was brought to the shelter to be processed into manure. Most of the
manure to fertilize grass and fruit trees in the orchard area. A small portion of
manure sold for about Rp 1,200 per kilogram.

Culture
In Dlingo subdistrict, some cultures are still often preserved such as:
1. Kesenian Jaranan/Jatilan
2. Rasulan
Jatilan is an art that brings the elements of dance movement and
magical. This type of art is played with a horse property imitation, made
from woven bamboo.
Rasulan is a form of thanksgiving that is a manifestation of society
over abundant blessings of God. From these activities, many simple life
philosophy and mutual cooperation surfaced.

Some natural resource places in Dlingo subdistrict:
Disease that had attacked people in Dlingo subdistrict is Chikungunya or
Dingkulen that brought by Aedes aegypti mosquito and dengue fever.
This tourist spot located in the Dusun Kembang Sore Pedukuhan Lemah Abang
Desa Mangunan Kecamatan Dlingo Kabupaten Bantul.
Elephant caves name is derived from the presence of the resembling elephant
shaped around cave area. Elephant cave is a horizontal cave with a depth about
200 meters, the condition is still natural with stalactites and stalagmites along
the beautiful cave. Inside the cave, tourist can see the natural scenery including
bats fying around the cave.

This spring is located in the wall
of Sudimara hill. The water will
be gathered and stored in the
form of tanks and containers from
the cement cast. Water from the
reservoir tanks is connected to
various areas, one of the areas is
the Pajimatan Imagiri or Mataram
Palace.

Natural Disasters Potencies
a. Gale
Regional Disaster Management council in Bantul, DIY said that strong wind
appears because of the weather transition of the dry season to the rainy
season. For Bantul region, the areas with a high possibility attacked by strong
wind are Dlingo, Piyungan, and Pajangan.
b. Earthquake
Bantul is an earthquake-prone area. Seismic energy centers (hiposentrum) in
Bantul is infuenced by crust subduction of the Indian Ocean with the Asian
continental shelf. Hiposentrum are located along faults Baturagung that is
located in the eastern part of the Bantul, so almost of Bantul regions are
earthquake-prone areas. When the fault is vibrated, the area located in front
of the fracture will be shaken. Ocean subduction of the Indian plate with the
Asian continent, plus the efect of the power of the volcano triggered a high
magnitude.
Bantul district classifed as a disaster-prone areas. There are fve types of
disasters that potentially occur in Bantul:
c. Tsunami
The southern region of Bantul district, also the ring of fre lanes (oceanic
plates meeting with continental plates), which directly border with the Indian
Ocean has a high possibility of tsunami. If the tectonic plates in the Indian
Ocean are moving then sea earthquake will happen which can lead to tsunami.
d. Landslide
The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics center of Bantul (BMKG)
classify the villages located in the Dlingo subdistrict are landslide-prone
areas, especially when the rainy season comes.
e. Flooding
In the rainy season the water level will rise and cause fooding. The puddles
are limited to the agricultural land which lead to the harvest failure.
