Living in daily victory

(Pastor Muyiwa Olubowale)

Text: 2 Sam 5:17-25

The text for todays message described when the Philistines decided to attack David
after they found out that he had been anointed as King of Israel. They plotted to
attack from the Valley of Rephaim. When David found out about their plans he went
down into the stronghold. There he sought God and asked whether to fight the
Philistines or not and God gave him the go-ahead. David defeated the Philistines and
they fled. However, after a while, the same enemy, the Philistines, attacked again
from the same place (the Valley of Rephaim). Yet, rather than just doing what worked
the previous time, David again sought God. This time God instructed him to approach
the enemy from a different angle and Philistines were defeated again.

And when David enquired of the Lord, he said, Thou shalt not go up; but fetch a
compass behind them, and come upon them over against the mulberry trees. And let
it be, when thou hearest the sound of a going in the tops of the mulberry trees, that
then thou shalt bestir thyself: for then shall the Lord go out before thee, to smite the
host of the Philistines. And David did so, as the Lord had commanded him; and smote
the Philistines from Geba until thou come to Gazer.
2 Samuel 5:23-25
So despite God having given David victory the first time around, they gathered again
in the same place. However, David enquired again of the Lord rather than presuming
to use the same strategy.
One of the problems with Christians today is the we operate on expired instructions
rather than seeking Gods face regularly to obtain new guidance. If David had
assumed that because the enemy had not changed, the plan had not changed, he
might have led the Israelites into a big defeat.
God wants us to live in daily victory. In order to live in this daily victory, we need to
seek him daily. This victory is not something that we need to purchase ourselves, but
something that Jesus has purchased on the cross. Our victory is not resident in our
ability to fight but Gods ability to fight on our behalf.
For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that
overcometh the world, even our faith.
1 John 5:4 (KJV)
But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ
1 Cor 15:57 (KJV)

So, how do we obtain this victory. We obtain this victory through Jesus Christ:
1. through the cross,
2. through the blood of Jesus and
3. through the power of the Holy Spirit.
Through the blood that was shed on the cross, any charges that the enemy brings our
way are cancelled.
Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to
us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; And having spoiled principalities
and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.
Colossions 2: 14-15
And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their
testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.
Revelation 12:11
But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall
be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto
the uttermost part of the earth.
Acts 1:8
1. To Live in daily victory we need the anointing. Notice how the Philistines only went
after David when they found out that he had been anointed.
2. We cannot live in daily victory if we do not learn to stand in the stronghold. Notice
how David went into the stronghold when he found out he was going to be
attacked. In Psalms 27 and 91 David talks about how the God provides him shelter.
Our stronghold is that secret place we meet with God, that place of prayer.
3. We must enquire of the Lord daily. It doesn't matter whether what is happening is
routine or whether it is new. Never leave your house in the morning without
enquiring speaking to God. Do not start anything new without enquiring of God.
4. We must use the blood of Jesus. Cover yourself, your family and everything around
you with the blood of Jesus.
5. You must live in the consciousness of victory.
But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
1 Cor 15:57
