Bee Hives and Clover 12 Afghan Block
By Joyce Lewis

Inspired by an antique edging published in 1891, called Bee Hive Lace, this 12 block was designed especially for
Melinda Millers Designer Showcase Crochet-A-Long. Its an unconventional block and should be considered
intermediate level. American terminology is used throughout.
Sample made using Red Heart Super Saver yarn with a size H hook
Gauge: Due to the non-standard construction, gauge is difficult to measure. However, each motif should measure
approximately 7.5 inches across by 4 inches high, at the end of round 6.
Thanks to Muffetsmom, sharecropper, and tls2011 for testing this pattern. Their support and encouragement mean more
to me than they will ever know!

Note: Color changes are left up to the individual. Do NOT fasten off between rounds unless you choose to change
colors. The entire block can be worked without cutting the yarn. Also, for those of you who routinely shorten your
turning chains; please follow the instructions used in the pattern instead. Every ch st you skip will shorten the long
edge of the triangle, enlarge the hole in the corner, and alter the proportions of the entire block.

corner ch-4 sp, (qdc, ch 1) in marked sc in joining round, (trc, ch 1, dc) in same corner ch-4 sp, (ch 1, dc) 14 times evenly
across to next corner, because you are working along the sides of most stitches you will have to estimate the spacing,
for instance; place one (ch 1, dc) at the top of the first trc, and one (ch 1, dc)s in the middle loops of the same st,
place one (ch 1, dc) at the end of each round ending in sc, place two (ch 1, dc) in each of next three trc, etc., see
illustration for suggested placement, * (ch 1, dc, ch 1, trc, ch 1) in corner ch-4 sp, (qdc, ch 1) in marked sc in joining
