Supporting Narrative: Apply Principles

I selected a few artifacts from EDCI 672 to demonstrate my ability to analyze and evaluate real-world
problems in the instructional design community. I was able to formulate solutions to real-world
situations that benefit the client.
I prepared and reflected on the issues in real-world cases and was able to demonstrate my ability to
navigate the analysis process by identifying key stakeholders and primary concerns of each case and
the challenges posed by deficiencies in the current development and design process for each case.
Since communication, collaboration, and project management are vital components to a successful
training program, I was able to evaluate the situation and hone in on my ability to address the
deficiencies or challenges and formulate and present potential solutions. I prioritized and justified my
approach and solutions discussed the benefits developed in my assessment. These skills led to a
resolution for each case.
The Craig Gregersen case analysis, my first artifact, required research and additional resources that
further developed my understanding of the steps of analysis process. This was necessary in the
development of productive training session and also led to the improvement of my analytical skill set.
I identified key stakeholders and perspectives, key challenges and priorities, potential legal
ramifications, and developed strategies and solutions that would address the needs of the target
audiences.

An additional case study, and second artifact, is the Paul Lindley case study analysis. This case
allowed me to identify specific and key stakeholders and challenges, and it demonstrates my ability
to rewrite objectives that are clear and concise. This led to the use of better design strategies and
displayed my ability to recognize that a lack of funding can affect the design process. I offered a few
reasonable solutions and addressed the engagement issue for learners.

I developed an evaluation for a project based on stated goals and recognized standards through my
evaluation of Pearson Writing Lab. I verified the reliability and quality of this tool to meet the
objectives and standards of the Language Arts and English classroom curriculums and student needs.
I came up with an evaluation plan that determined if the tool could meet some or all of those
objectives and also engage learners, improve grades, and have the ability to create a personalize a
study plan to improve overall student performance on formative and summative writing
assessments.

My final artifact, a Human Trafficking unit, exhibits my ability to design, plan, develop, and integrate
instructional strategies and techniques for instructional design of a unit on human trafficking. By
utilizing the ADDIE instructional design model, I was able to identify the learning problems and
develop goals and objectives, identify the audiences needs, and background knowledge so that I
could design and develop the unit and then put the plan into action and evaluate the training
materials effectiveness. I evaluated students by using strategies like checks for understanding,
rubrics to assess skills and knowledge gained and research and presentation skills. Feedback from
the students helped to drive revisions and modifications to the design of the unit.

My goal is to transfer my experiences into the development of curriculum for course design and
development. It also provides me with an experience in developing and presenting staff professional
development trainings. I truly believe that by transferring these skills and applying new knowledge
will allow me to become a more effective lesson designer, instructor, and facilitator.
