Inside this issue: Hope Christian Middle Schools community out- reach group, Weekend Missions, hosted an end of the year party with an unusual theme: hair. The Haircutting Party gave 31 students, staff, and parents the oppor- tunity to cut and donate their long locks to the Childhood Leukemia Foundation (CLF). Do- nated hair will be used to make wigs for chil- dren across the nation who have lost their hair due to cancer treatment. The event was held at DAmbrosio Designs Hair Studio. Last fall, science teacher Brenda Angus was ap- proached by a student wanting to donate her hair to charity. I loved the idea so much, said Mrs. Angus, I told her I would do it with her. Mrs. Angus posted a sign up sheet on her classroom door to en- courage stu- dents to grow their hair un- til the end of the school year. The par- ticipants, mostly 6 th and 7 th grade girls, each donated at least 10 of hair. Cut hair was placed in individual sealable bags and will be shipped to CLFs headquarters in New Jersey. After cutting off the donated portion of their hair, participants received complimentary haircuts from DAmbrosio stylists. I pray and hope the students participating get a sense of communi- ty, giving back, sacrifice, and love, says Mrs. An- gus In addition, they would be an example to others and be able to inspire other students to contribute to our world. As Hope Chris- tian School con- tinues to grow, so do the needs of our student body. The ad- ministration and teachers have seen a growing need for a full time chaplain, who is more readily available to meet the concerns of our families and students. Due to Hopes growing needs, the decision was made to create a full time chaplain position be- ginning the 2014-15 school year. Mr. Perry Floyd was asked to fill the position of full time school chaplain, for all levels, as needed. The school chap- lain will be responsible for organizing and planning all retreats, be available for student counseling or referrals, plan chapel services, hospital visits, available to speak in Bible classes, Bible Depart- ment Head, and will help guide the spiritual formation of our student body. We believe that creating this new position will help to better meet the needs of our student body and fami- lies. As many of you know, Mr. Floyd has been on staff as a teacher and part time chaplain for many years. He has taught World Views to seniors, and has been an integral part of equipping our seniors for the years after high school. Mr. Floyd leaving the classroom left a teaching position open, which we just recently filled. The senior Bible class will be taught by Christian Schlenker, a Hope Alum. We are excited for Mr. Floyd and the ministry opportunities his new position presents.
