3here are hundreds o" tutorials sprawling across the web that show you how to re:ote access your
Raspberry Pi's desktop "ro: your laptop/PC; 3his will co:e handy i" you don't ha(e *or don't
want/ a display unit to see your Pi or want to use your Laptop/PC's screen and keyboard/:ouse
itsel"; 3his :ode o" accessing the ter:inal and/or desktop o" the Raspberry Pi without connecting it
to any display unit *and not connecting any keyboard/:ouse to the Pi/ is usually ter:ed as 0eadless

that strea:s the Desktop's <U- to any 45C Client/ on the Raspberry Pi and then install any 45C
(iewer on the Laptop/PC; 5ow$ installing 3ight45C ser(er on the Raspberry Pi re.uires it to be
connected to the internet; And here's :y proble:% - don't ha(e a Router or -nternet cable in :y
ho:e; - essentially use a < dongle "or all :y internet needs;
&e e(en tried installing ,RDP onto Raspberry Pi *by copying the tar and running it on the Pi/ but
this "ailed as it tried downloading the :issing dependencies;
&e tried couple o" :ethods to share our Laptop's internet connection with the Raspberry Pi but they
"ailed; Desperate still to access :y Raspberry Pi's desktop$ we stu:bled upon this setup which
"inally worked;
!e"ore we proceed with re:otely accessing the Raspberry Pi's desktop$ we "irst need to be able to
SS0 into it *access it's shell$ akin to co::and pro:pt in windows OS/; 3he procedure "or SS0ing
into the Raspberry Pi without the need o" any Display De(ice "or Raspberry Pi is e1plained below;
Direct SS0 into Raspberry Pi in 0eadless 2ode
-n this tutorial$ we'll .uickly setup our Raspberry Pi connected locally to our PC/Laptop using a
standard Cat 8 7thernet cable *crosso(er not re.uired/;
Please "ollow the below steps to ha(e a working SS0 connection%
=; -nstall and burn the latest Raspbian &hee)y OS onto the SD card "or the Raspberry Pi
>;&hile the Raspberry Pi is switched o""$ connect one side o" the 7thernet cable to Raspberry Pi
and other side to the R?48 @ack o" the PC/Laptop
;Open LA5 properties and :ake sure that -P44 properties are set to Obtain -P address

4;&e now need to deter:ine the -P o" our PC/Laptop when it's connected to the Raspberry Pi
8;5ow power on the Raspberry Pi while :aking sure that the network cable is connected on both
ends
A;&ait "or a :in or two; 9ou'll notice that the PC/Laptop will scan and then show a s:all warning
indicating the presence o" an unidenti"ied network
+;5ow$ open co::and pro:pt and type ipcon"ig; 5ote the -P o" the 7thernet Adapter Local Area
Connection as shown below%

C;5ow$ power o"" the Raspberry Pi and take out the SD Card; Plug in the SD card into a card
reader and open it; 9ou should see a couple o" "iles
B;Open the c:dline;t1t "ile and append this to the end o" it%

Please change the -P accordingly and assign a uni.ue (alue *while :aking sure you don't go
beyond the subnet :ask/; Pre"erably$ change only the last para:eter

Raspberry Pi in c:dline;t1t
=E; Sa(e the c:dline;t1t "ile without :aking any other changes
==;Plug this back into the Raspberry Pi and with the 7thernet cables connected$ power on the
Raspberry Pi
=>;&ait a couple o" :inutes while the Raspberry Pi tries to establish a local network connection
with our PC/Laptop
=;Once you see the network warning :essage as shown abo(e$ ping the Raspberry Pi to see i"
it's li(e on the network as "ollows

-" all went good$ you should see the Pi responding back to the ping re.uests as shown below%

9ou should get a certi"icate trust warning :essage *i" SS0ing "or the "irst ti:e/ which you should
accept; Once done$ you'll see the login ter:inal%
7nter pi
3he password should be raspberry
Once done$ hit enter; 9ou should now see bash pro:pt as shown below%
4oila$ you're now SS0ed into the Ras Pi; -t's all yours now %/
5ow$ :o(ing on to access the Raspberry Pi's desktop$ we "irst need to install ,:ing , Ser(er "or

2ake sure you install the SS0 co:ponents also when pro:pted to do so;
Once that gets success"ully installed$ si:ply click the ,:ing icon and :ake sure it's running in the
background
5ow$ open Pu339 ter:inal and "irst enable ,== "orwarding as shown below%
5ow$ direct SS0 into the Raspberry Pi as e1plained pre(iously
Once inside$ si:ply type in :idori and this should bring the 2idori browser as a window
&e'll now hit in l1session or startl1de and that should pop up the desktop o" the Raspberry Pi%

-n order to close this$ go back to the Pu339 ter:inal and kill this process using Ctrl I C
5ote% 3his "or so:e reason is still not showing the lower part o" the Desktop including Start :enu
and taskbar;
