HOW MANY STUDENTS:
420 Graduate students
How many students are you responsible for:
Assigned one cohort of students every 18 months.
The cohort consists of 15-19 students.
WHO ARE YOUR STUDENTS
Multidisciplinary background: Nurses, Physician Assistants even had
a hair stylist
Emphasized: assigned 1 student every 18 months

WHAT CAN YOU TELL ME ABOUT THE
ADMINISTRATION?

Going through a change at this time-new chair of the
department
The previous chair was VERY supportive
She had no issues needing to be addressed by the chair
Finds very few issues with the students
There are 4 faculty to 1 class administrator

STRENGTHS OF THE PROGRAM
The structure for the Applied Research Project
Allows the student to know what is expected
When it is expected
More support
More structure
Closer watch
Higher completion rate
Students get the same content
LIMITATIONS
The need for an external faculty that has a specific specialty or
more competent
ie: statistician-this assignment would be an external
committee member

Even though the students get the same content, there is
concern with grading and guidance as dependent on the
instructor they are assigned
