Study of Performance Management System
2. Background of the project
The project would cover about brief introduction about PMS, the methods used in
appraisal, the goal setting at company level and subsequently to individual level,
competency mapping, and training needs assessment, career aspirations of the
employees and performance review.
3. Scope & Objectives and its importance to Cos business
PMS provides employees with a better understanding of their role and responsibilities;
increase confidence through recognizing strengths while identifying training needs to
improve weaknesses; improve working relationships and communication between
supervisors and subordinates; increase commitment to organizational goals; assess the
career aspirations and help in succession planning; assist in personnel decisions such as
promotions or allocating rewards.
4. Preparatory work done so far
Have gone through the basic concepts of Performance management system, process
and various methods used in appraisal through secondary data.
At company, I have seen the Organization Chart and Goal setting and appraisal forms
and started distributing appraisal forms and follow up with Senior management
personnel. Moreover, tried to get brief idea about the appraisal system.

Concepts of Performance management system methods and basic knowledge about
the methods used in performance appraisal.
7. Expected benefits

PMS helps to improve the bottom line of the company by increasing employee productivity
and quality of work. Employees experience greater job satisfaction because they become more
successful and responsible. My project would help in facilitating the process faster and further
help quality scan of the forms. It would also help me to know the ratings system and the impact
of the appraisal on the business and training needs assessment.

8. Industry mentors view point

PMS is a very important aspect of any business. It starts with Goal setting followed by
competency mapping and further assessing the training needs. The periodical review
helps in facilitating the process better.
