END OF TERM ARRANGEMENTS
Next week is the final week of Term 2. Please note that students will be dismissed early on Friday 27th June at
2:30pm from the Multi Purpose Room after a short whole school assembly.
Students will return from holidays for the beginning of Term 3 on Monday 14th July.

EVACUATION DRILL
As part of our emergency management procedures, we practised a whole school evacuation today. As an
added challenge this time around, we ran the evacuation siren whilst the school nurse
and many visitors were on the school premises.
The response was fantastic with our students very well behaved and returning
immediately to their classrooms. Within a couple of minutes the entire school was
empty and all children, staff and visitors safely in the Community building. Working
through our communication protocols, by around the four and a half minute mark we
were able to account for every student in the school. We were also pleased that all of the relief staff present
today were also able to easily pick up our procedures.
In sharing this through the Newsletter, we hope you have a strong sense of the vigilance we have in regards to
student safety at Tootgarook Primary School.

Staffing
In recent days the selection panel has been interviewing candidates for the Assistant Principal
role at Tootgarook Primary School. The panel was unanimous in offering the role to Paul King,
current Acting Assistant Principal. Paul has accepted the offer and will start in the position next
term. On behalf of the staff, students and community I congratulate Paul on his new
appointment to Tootgarook Primary School.

EVERY DAY COUNTS SCHOOL ATTENDANCE
We all want our students to get a great education, and the building blocks for a great education begin with
students coming to school each and every day.
Missing school can have a major impact on a childs future a student missing one day a fortnight will miss four
full weeks by the end of the year. By Year 10 theyll have missed more than a year of school.
There is no safe number of days for missing school each day a student misses puts them behind, and can
affect their educational outcomes.
Coming to school every day is vital, but if for any reason your child must miss school, there are things we can
do together to ensure they dont fall behind:
Speak with your classroom teacher and find out what work your child needs to do to keep up.
In the case of an extended absence, develop an absence learning plan with your teacher and ensure
your child completes the plan.

Remember, every day counts. If your child must miss school, speak with your classroom teacher as early as
possible.
From 1 March 2014, new laws mean that parents can be fined for not sending students to school without an
acceptable reason.
If youre having attendance issues with your child, please let your classroom teacher know so we can work
together to get your child to school every day.
As Always, if you would like to discuss this matter further, dont hesitate to contact Paul King (Acting Assistant
Principal) or myself for an appointment.
