Focus of the Summit
After 22 years of New Industrial Policy of Liberalization,
Privatization and Globalization (LPG), India is at cross-
roads in terms of finding a way for industrial peace and
prosperity. It is not exaggeration to say that the seeds of
turbulent industrial relations were sown in India as early as
1991 itself when the Indian Economy was liberalized, pri-
vatized and globalised. In the name of cost control and
quality measures, there has been increase focus on out-
sourcing and contract labour and with safety net missing,
the resentment among the workforce across all the sectors
has been reaching the boiling point. The flash points are
Maruthi Suzuki, Pricol, Hyundai and Regency Ceramics.
These are not isolated instances but they are the shape of
things to come. The factors responsible for these instances
are not just domestic. What is the role of HR professional in
the contemporary Industrial Relations?
