Date: 11/05/2014 Organized By: Jana Arogya Andolana Karnataka --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- List of the items that have to be discussed at the meeting: Understanding health care as a fundamental right Understanding about nationalization How does our vision of a nationalized health system look like? Making argument in favor of nationalization of health Making debate on nationalization of heath and its challenges Formation of short and long term strategies towards nationalization of health Around 25 members from various NGOs in and around Bangalore have participated in the meeting. The session started with the self-introduction of the participants. I Part: a documentary movie has screened and it was related to identifying of health related issues in various private and government hospitals across the state. The staff members of Jana Arogya Andolana Karnataka have shot the film in various hospitals of Karnataka. Most of the conversations in the film have been taken from the patients who waiting for their treatment in the hospitals. II Part: Dr. Akila, the convener of Jana Arogya Andolana Karnataka has presented her views on nationalization of health. She explained as the health care system and services should be provided in uniform and free of cost in all government hospitals. It not only at the primary level involving preventive and promoted but also curative and rehabilitative services at the secondary and tertiary levels will be available free of cost to all. The health and health care services will not be a profitable oriented. On this session we have done discussion with one another. Mr. Prasanna, one who the participant has argued seriously on the topic Nationalization of Health. It took plenty of time to bring the session for conclusion. III Part: This part was mainly for formatting the short and long term strategies towards the Nationalization of Health. Jana Arogya Andolana Karnataka have suggested to the participants from various NGOs as, we should collect the details of vacant posts of cleaners, doctors, nurses and lab technicians at all primary, secondary and tertiary levels. Mainly we have to conduct more case studies in the private hospitals at all levels. We have to transfer the information immediately to the media when the issues identified from the private hospitals and clinics. 2
Learning experience: I have studied more vocabularies related to the medical terms. I have seen more information about health related issues in the documentary movie and I realized that, it should be fulfilled by the government soon. I gathered the information about conducting of free medical camps and its consequences by the private hospitals. Consequences mean: Demanding for Ration Cards (APL/BPL), ID Cards, Vajpayee Scheme Cards etc. Even if the patients are ready to produce all cards they are not willing to give free treatment. After the diagnosis the patients are demanded to join in their hospitals for treatment. The above information shows us clearly the private hospitals are conducting free medical camps for the purpose of filling the empty beds in their hospitals. And also I realized that all private hospitals in a state should be under the supervision of the concerned government department. It will be helpful to strengthen the government hospitals of a state at all levels.
