sectors. Tamilnadu has established itself as manufacturing hub for Automobile, Auto-
components, Petroleum, Chemical, Sugar, Cement, Power, Electronics, Heavy
Engineering, Fabrications and engineering products at various industrial clusters
spread across Tamilnadu. All these industrial sectors need surface preparation,
treatment and coating in some or the other form on materials used in manufacturing,
building, process and related applications.
Any maintenance person shall understand the importance of coating and paintings,
since (s)he knows the time consumed and cost involved, which sometime is much
higher than new part itself. It is estimated that thousands of crores rupees are spent
every year on general maintenance in industries due to poor quality of coatings and
processes adopted. Although a high degree of knowledge and expertise on corrosion
related issues is available in country, this is confined to certain pockets and areas and
the Industry is either unaware or unmindful of the magnitude of losses caused due to
corrosion on the plant, machinery and equipment employed.
Though industrialization has set in India long time, we still lag
behind in using better technologies and superior finishes for
protection of material and there is large scope for increase in
business and widening horizons in this field. With India being
projected as a manufacturing hub for world in near future, it is
time to explore the various options than can be deployed to
improve the finish and life of various plants and equipments that
are being manufactured by us.
