Two Needle Wash Mitt

This mitt can be used for washing (especially babies where you may need your thumb to hold
on to them), in the kitchen, or any other place where its nice to not have to hold the rag
while youre scrubbing.
Materials:
#6 Straight Needles
Size F Crochet hook
Peaches & Cream size cotton yarn
Stitches:
K - Knit
P - Purl
RT - right twist. K2 together, then knit in
the first stitch before removing the stitches
from the needle.
CO 40
Knit 1 inch of K1, P1 ribbing.
Row 1:
(K1, P1) for 20 stitches [this is your palm],
(RT, P2) for 20 stitches [this is the back of
your hand]
Row 2:
(K2, P2) for 20 stitches, (K1, P1) for 20 stitches
Repeat rows 1 and 2 until the pieces measures 5 inches from the bottom.
For those familiar with sock knitting, we are going to make a short row "heel" for the top.
You can search the internet for lots of tutorials on how to do this. I do not use a wrap when
I turn, but if you prefer to, it is quite suitable. You will be working only on the first 20
stitches [the palm].

Slip one Purlwise, Purl 17, Turn
Slip one Knitwise, K16, Turn,
Slip one Purlwise, Purl 15, Turn
Slip one Knitwise K14, Turn,
Slip one Purlwise, Purl 13, Turn
continue in pattern until your return purl row is Slip one Purlwise, Purl 7
Now we will pick up one stitch from each side to form the other side of the finger cap:
Slip one Knitwise, K7, Slip the next stitch (before the gap),pick up the bar running between
the gap, and SSK, turn
Slip one Purlwise, P8, Slip the next stitch (before the gap),pick up the bar running between
the gap, and P2 tog, turn
Slip one Knitwise, K9, Slip the next stitch (before the gap),pick up the bar running between
the gap, and SSK, turn
Slip one Purlwise, P10, Slip the next stitch (before the gap),pick up the bar running between
the gap, and P2 tog, turn
Continue until you have purled back to the first stitch of the palm
Knit 40 stitches [all the way across the palm and the back section] leaving the thread at the
edge. Were going to ignore the thread for a minute while we join the top and back with the
crochet hook.
All your stitches are on one needle. Using the empty needle, slip 20 stitches onto it. Now
you can fold your mitt in half, and line up the two needles parallel to each other like you
would do for grafting. [The mitt will be folded in half with the right sides facing out. It will
start to look like the finished product.]
Take your crochet hook and place it through the first loop on the back needle purlwise.
Hook the first loop from the finger cap and pull it through this loop. You will have one loop
on your crochet hook. Now pull a stitch from the bottom needle through the loop. You will
have one loop on your crochet hook. Now continue alternating between the top and bottom
needles, until all the stitches are woven together. When you get to the end, pull your thread
through the last stitch.
Slip stitch the front and back together down the edge of the mitt for approximately 2". You
can try it on your hand to see when it gets to where you need to split for the thumb.
Now slip stitch ONLY in on the back for 2 inches to leave an opening for your thumb.
After the thumb opening is as large as you would like, begin slip stitching both the front and
the back together until you are at the bottom of the mitt. You can cast off now, or you may
crochet a chain stitch and make a loop to hang your mitt on a hook.
