APPLICATIONS FOR ADMISSION TO Ph.D. 2014
Applications are invited for admission to Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) programme in
Management, Economics, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering,
Nanotechnology, Biotechnology, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English, Sikh Studies,
Punjabi, Environmental science and Physical Education.
Prospectus and Application form can be obtained from the university on payment of
Rs. 500/- wef. 28
th
April 2014 or may be downloaded from university website.
The completed application form along with the required application and Entrance Test
fee and documents should be submitted in person or through registered post or speed
post to the Admission Cell of the University.
The entrance test will be held on 15t
h
of May 2014.(Thursday)

PhD Entrance Test Guidelines (Session - 2014-15)

1. The PhD test will be held on May 15, 2014 (Thursday) at 11:00 am in University Campus
only. Registration will start at 9:00 am sharp.
2. The test will be held in the subjects of Business Management, Economics, Physics,
Chemistry, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering,
Nano-Technology, Bio-Technology, Physical Education, English, Sikh Studies,
Environmental Science and Punjab.
3. (a) Application cum registration form can be obtained from the university on payment of
Rs. 500/- through demand draft in favour of Registrar, Sri Guru Granth Sahib World
University, Payable at Fatehgarh Sahib or by cash payment at the spot.
(b) In case the admission form is downloaded from the University site, it should be
submitted complete in all respects alongwith Application cum Registration fee of
Rs.500/- in the form of demand draft.
4. Last date for submission of application form for PhD is May 9, 2014.
5. The Entrance test fee of Rs. 1,000/- is to be paid through demand draft in favour of
Registrar, Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Payable at Fatehgarh Sahib along
with the application form. Entrance test fee can also be deposited by cash at the spot. In
such a case, the fee receipt should be enclosed with the application form.
6. Candidates have to submit duly filled Admit Card with self-attested photograph latest by
May 9, 2014 (Friday). The Admit card can be downloaded from the website.
7. The test will comprise of following two papers, each of 60 minutes:
(a) Paper I (Common for all subjects) : Will contain 60 objective type multiple
choice questions
Scope: General Aptitude, Reasoning, Numerical/Mental Ability, Indian education
system, Analytical skills/Research aptitude, Environment, Language proficiency,
Teaching Aptitude and any other topic covered in Paper I of the NET.
(b) Paper II (for subject opted by candidate for admission) : Will contain 60
objective type multiple choice questions
Scope: Core areas relating to the concerned discipline/subject.
8. The syllabus of the test will be the same as the syllabus of UGC syllabus for NET or
GATE.
9. A minimum of 40% marks are required in each paper to qualify the test.
10. The candidates who have qualified UGC (NET)/ UGC-CSIR (JRF) examination/
SLET/ GATE and foreign students sponsored by ICCR or any other applicable test
conducted by notified authority of Government of India for the purpose, will be exempted
from Ph.D entrance test, subject to approval of the Vice-Chancellor. Applications of
other foreign students who wish to seek admission directly (without sponsorship) to
Ph.D programme shall be examined by a committee set up by the Vice Chancellor.They
will have to appear for the interview. The date for same will be notified separately.
11. A minimum of 40% marks are required in each paper to quality the test.
12. The candidates have to appear in both the papers.
13. There is no negative marking for the test.
14. Candidates must attach one self-addressed envelop of 9cmx4cm with stamps worth Rs
10/-.
15. Candidates studying in final year can apply provisionally in anticipation of their result.




Eligibility Criteria for Admission:
a) Masters degree with at least 55% marks or 5.5 CGPA out of 10 (50% marks or
equivalent CGPA for SC/ST candidates and differently abled persons who have
atleast 40% disability) of Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib
or an equivalent degree of a recognized Indian or Foreign University in the subject
concerned or allied-subject.
b) The eligibility of foreign students shall be determined on the basis of recognition of
their degrees equivalence to (a) above by Association of Indian Universities, New
Delhi or any other notified authority for the purpose by the Government of India.
Selection Criteria for Admission:
Weightage for different components for determining merit is as under:

* UGC-NET/ CSIR/ JRF Qualified candidates will be exempted from the test and the marks
secured by them in the said examination will be considered. In case of candidates who
qualified UGC-NET/ CSIR/ JRF in the years when marks were not mentioned; the merit will
be computed by doubling the remaining components.

** Maximum 5 points will be given for the publications:

In case candidate is first author:
For each published paper in;
International Journal = 3 points
National Journal = 1 point
In case the candidate is second or third author, half of the points mentioned above.
In case of a book, selection committee will decide about the weightage, considering the
quality of book.
