People in Architecture
People in Architecture is an antithesis to the exploitation of Architecture as the Mask in the
Face of Political idiosyncrasy.

The state always attempts to express its power, influence and benevolence through public
spaces. Public space has always been the playground of utter manifestation of political ideology
by the state in the name of people. The bitter truth is; People find themselves doubtful and
bewildered in the mist of their own identity People.
Public space is for the people, it has much to do with people rather than to a leader. Public
Space should cater to peoples need and the success of the space depend on how much people
connect themselves to the space, in spite of how much monumentalism or symbolism it offers.
The Building should not assume power but deserve it.
- Ada Karmi Melamed
Human Behavioral Irony
People always seek for class of their own in a person or in a building to communicate themselves.
However, imbalance of persona is evident throughout.
When,
Class of the People < Class of the Space; Inferior Complexity aggravates.
In the same way, when,
Class of the People > Class of the Space; Superior Complexity amplifies.
Both cases are a tragedy and only are capable of injecting the conflict.
It generally happens to be, the building dominating the people. Perhaps, this phenomenon of
imbalance does exist because of the aspiration of a creator to express the greatness of himself or
at least of the owner in architecture. This monism often transcends very soul of the user who
really wishes to admire the creation. Where as, the paradox is; The true admiration of the user
can only connote the success of the Architecture.
Essence in The Design
The Forum of Political Consciousness is an ideal occasion to unify the triangular ambition of The
Creator, The Owner and The User into a single dot The People
My design is an attempt to neutralize the class conflict between space and people. However, it
is not about architecture as servant to people but about co-existence, mutual love and
harmonizing the unison.
People trusting Space
When Architecture offers Familiarity and Honesty
And, People make senses to communicate
People sharing Consciousness
When Architecture offers Engagement
And, People share spaces.
People expressing Freedom
When Architecture transmits Power
And, Human soul assumes it
People merging into Space
When Architecture invites People
And, People overwhelm Architecture
More People means much More People
This is not a sacrifice of glory but a compassionate statement of Architecture embracing the
people with poise and dignity. In the purest intentions of such, the glory shall bounce back to
Architecture, perhaps in absolute divinity.
This design is an attempt to bring that merger of People in Architecture with the purest
intensions of Architecture that I have perceived without taking a side to any political theme or an
ideology.

OF POLITICAL

The idea of
conceptualizing the building shall itself be a Peoples Miniature Forum and respond to
immediate contextual forces. The design evolve with the basis that the building shall primarily
incorporate the space for Information and Expression. Where as the terrace of the building shall
merge with the landscape as Recreational Space.
People shall run all over the building.
When we analyze the pure functionality and its distinction of the components, Museum of
Political Revolution and Think Tank are the two which can be considered anti-components to
each other (This however doesnt mean absolutely repulsive!). Thus these two components are
place at two ends.
Now, in case of Convention hall, even though, being expressive in nature, it also offers
simultaneous informative character and vice-versa in case of Exhibition hall. The Library is more
informative where as the Restaurant is more recreational. The figure tries to sketch the degree
of expressiveness or informative ness of the components relatively with the corresponding
relationship to each other.
In order to integrate those parts which offers the duality (In between character), the idea of A
Great Foyer in a Buffer Zone took birth so as to function as the central linkage and activity zone.

AXIS OF VISION AXIS OF VISION

The evolution of design corresponds with the shape of the site and is guided by four axes Two
Axes of Vision, an Axis of Centroid and an axis of Corridor.
Axis of Corridor
The axis is in respond to adjacent pond scenario and serves as a recreational circumambulatory
to Rani Pokhari and a direct pedestrian linkage to eastern main road.
Perpendicular Visual axis from the South Park to Ranipokhari Temple
The axis is in respond to fore ground of South Park and determines the mid-rib the whole park.
This axis determines the line of alienation of Memorial Platform.
Axis of Centroid
The intersection of this axis and the perpendicular one marked the position of the Memorial
Platform.

Visual axis from the chowk of Bagbazaar to the edge of Rani Pokhari
This is the key axis that defined the flow of the volume and its respective plan. This axis clarified
the flow the built form so that the visual linkage still remained with the heritage. Hence, the
form evolves from the east and gradually unleash from the earth in the west towards sky.
