Introduction
There are different meanings to privacy. The most general way of explaining would
be freedom from interference or intrusion, the right to be left alone. (Larren and
Brandeis, 18!" This identifies that each individual has a sphere of existence and
activity that rightly belongs to that person alone, where he or she should be free of
control, pressure, and even unwanted or uninvited observation. #ost individual
would recogni$e the protected sphere to include personal communications and
opinions.
This would also apply to our personal information or any activities that can be
performed online. %e are currently living in the age of the &nternet world, many
things can be done through the &nternet. 'eople are increasingly going online in so
many aspects of their daily lives, and the challenge is to limit the privacy sacrifices
while en(oying the conveniences of online activities. )s the focus of online activity
migrates from des*top and laptop computers to smartphones and other mobile
devices, the mechanisms for protecting your privacy continue to evolve. #any
internet users have experienced problems because others stole their personal
information or otherwise too* advantage of their visibility online.
Therefore many websites have put in place privacy features that would be able to
help individuals who visit their webpages to protect their privacy, safeguard their
personal information online and prevent fraud and abuse while using the &nternet.
