PRIOR TO LEAVING NDT LAB


1.

Check for presence of all the accessories present in the carry case of core
cutting equipment.

2.

Check for Covermeter for working and presence of all accessories in carry
case.

Check for battery life displayed in the unit.

4.

Check for the working condition of core cutting equipment.

5.

Check for the condition of diamond segments in core barrels.

AFTER REACHING SITE


1.

Identify the members referred for Carbonation test.

2.

Scanning of members shall be carried out to identify the rebar position to


avoid cutting during extraction of core sample.

3.

Drilling of holes shall be carried out for fixing core cutting equipment on the
member.

Stud anchors to be inserted in the drilled holes and anchored properly.

5.

Threaded bolt to be fixed to the anchor.

6.

Base plate of core cutting equipment to be fixed on the concrete surface with
the help of stud anchors.

7.

Core bit to be fixed to the core cutting equipment.

8.

Water connection to be provided for core cutting equipment.

9.

Power supply for the equipment to be provided.

10.

Drilling to be started to the required depth i.e., upto cover concrete provided to
the r.c. member.

11.

Sample to be extracted by wedge shape chisel.

12.

Extracted sample to be dried.

13.

Phenolphthalein solution to be sprayed on the sample and observed for the


change in colour (i.e., pink colour) if there is no change in colour the entire
concrete deemed to be carbonated.

14.

If the colour change is only in part of the length, depth of carbonation from the
external face of concrete to be measured using steel measuring tape and the
result to be entered in the field test format.

All equipments to be removed, cleaned and kept in the carry case.

AT LABORATORY
1.

The results obtained at sites (field data sheet) shall be reviewed.

2.

The recorded readings/ findings shall be tabulated in the standard format by


graphically / in the form of tables.

3.

The detailed report (standard format) comprising of project details, date of


test, member identification reference codes/ literature and method of test shall
be furnished.
