OBJECTIVES:
Students will orally recall information about how to hold
and move a basketball.
Students will demonstrate their ability to control the
basketball by demonstrating the different drills.
Students will demonstrate good sportsmanship by
encouraging their classmates and teaching others that
are having a harder time with the drills.

ACCOMODATIONS FOR DIFFERENCES:
Allow different speeds of the drills and different
types of balls for those that need special assistance.

LAYOUT:
INTRODUCTION: on their spot
WARM UP: on their spot (run inside)
LESSON FOCUS: spread out in the gym but in their lines

EQUIPMENT:
Basketballs




TEACHING POINTS:
Reminder: Slow down and do the drills correctly. IF you
cannot control the ball on your own then you will
not be able to control the ball in a game.
Drills:
Slaps Pound or slap the ball from one hand to the
other; this can be used when inbounding the ball
Circles controlling the ball around different parts of
the body; both feet, waist, head
Candy cane Moving the ball around the body
starting low and traveling up the body to the head
then back down.
Around leg control the ball around one leg (switch
leg after 10-15 circles)
Figure 8 the ball travels in a figure 8 path between
the legs (switch directions after 10-15)
Drops while holding the ball between legs with one
hand in front of the body and the other behind, drop
the ball and switch the hands (repeat)
Dribbling normal waist height
Dribbling low as low as possible
Varied heights start normal and lower down then
back up (increase speed as you get more
comfortable)
Dribbling V Alternating dribbling with your right
hand then your left hand the ball bounces in front
of the body and travels a V pattern
Dribbling while moving side shuffle, walking,
running
Behind the back or between the legs
Games:
Divide the class into 4 teams winners play each
other, losers play each other (3 games)
