PASSAGE : Acts 1:1-26
KEY VERSE(S) : 'You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has
come upon you and you shall be my witnesses...
(1:8)
SUBJECT : Pre-Pentecost Events
FOCUS : Power and prayer make ministry eIIective
Main Idea : The primary ministry oI every believer should Iocus on
proclaiming Christ in the power oI the Spirit and praying to know and
do God`s will.
Every believer should -
1. )*$+,-./ Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit
a. Focus on witnessing
'You shall receive power when the Holy
Spirit has come upon you and you shall
be my witnesses. (1:8)
Note: The Holy Spirit is not given primarily to beneft the recipient
personally, but to enable and empower the believer to be a witness
to Christ. A believer without the power oI God is like a car without
gasoline it cannot perIorm the purpose Ior which it was made
(1:6-7).
b. Forget about things you cannot know or control (1:6-7)
Note: Christ told the disciples to quit worrying about the timing oI
the restored kingdom it was not their current business.

c. Forge ahead in obedience (1:9-11)
Note: The disciples didn`t need to stand and gaze at the sky but be
obedient to the commands oI Christ.
2. )*-0 to know and do God`s will
'They were continually devoting themselves to prayer. (1:14)
'and they prayed (1:24)
Note: Prayer got the disciples spiritually ready Ior ministry ('they
were all oI one mind) and prayer provided the answer as to God`s
will Ior a replacement Ior Judas.
Conclusion: Power and prayer are the two key secrets oI successIul
ministry which believers desparately need.
Power provides enablement.
Prayer provides enlightenment.
