The Surgical Program
The ACCS registrar training program provides two years of advanced
training in cosmetic surgery. It has a number of consistent parts:

18 months Australian rotation
6 months - Overseas training in ACCS, European or USA accredited
training posts
The production of a clinical research paper or review article for
publication
College academic syllabus
College Fellowship examinations: written and oral components
Surgical log book
Registrar evaluation reports
Australian Rotation
The Australian component comprises rotations based in NSW, VIC, SA and
QLD.
Rotations consists of a minimum of 3 months duration and involves
attachment to at least four cosmetic surgeons who are responsible for the
registrar's clinical training.

25 hours clinical attendance each week (eg. operating sessions, pre-op
and post-op clinics) which are registered in their clinical log book
(minimum 1100 hours per year).
10 hours of academic time (the time estimated to complete the
academic syllabus).
Attendance at a minimum of 6 major procedures per week (minimum of
250 per year) recorded in their surgical log book.

Registrars are also responsible for running the Journal Club which is part of
the College CME program.
Overseas Training
Consists of either:

ACCS / American Academy of Joint Fellowship
ACCS / European Academy of Joint Fellowship
Other posts as accredited by the College

Examinations
Written and Viva Voce as determined by the College from time to time.

All references to "College" indicate the Australasian College of Cosmetic
Surgery


Fees

Two Year Surgical Registrar Training - $30,000 + GST, payable before
commencement of training.

Established in 1999, the Australasian College of Cosmetic Surgery (ACCS)
is a not-for-profit, multi-disciplinary fellowship based body of general
surgeons, cosmetic surgeons, plastic surgeons, maxillofacial surgeons,
dermatologists, ear nose and throat surgeons, ophthalmologists and
other doctors and health care practitioners who practice in cosmetic
medicine and surgery.
The primary goal of the ACCS is to ensure the safe provision of cosmetic
medicine and cosmetic surgical procedures to the Australian general
community through the supply of appropriately trained and certified
health care practitioners.
The College also seeks to work cooperatively with government and other
stakeholders to improve standards and safety and to educate health care
consumers and its Fellows and spokespeople are regularly quoted in the
media and consulted by federal and state health and consumer
regulators.
